ReptiPro 5000 & 6000 Hatch-a-long Thread

How often should I be tipping the turner? I try to turn at least every 8ish hours, but have been turning every 4-6 during the day and then not from bed time (about 11pm till 8am in the morning). Is this gonna be OK?

I turn the eggs 5 times a day.. some people turn them 3 times.. some more .. it all depends on what you can manage to do.. heck.. a hen can turn them 96 times in a day

I never turn them at night.. but I do open the bator every time I get up to allow for some fresh air exchange

Well, I had to candle to see. Ok, I set these eggs on the 18th, thought I would try candling after what happened today, but I shouldn't have worried too much since I had them plugged into our little SUV. My goodness! I swear they all look to be fertile. I have a lot of light eggs I can see into, and I do have some olive eggs, but, I only had a hard time seeing in that one, but...the air sac looked good..in fact, all of the air sacs are coming along nicely. Unbelievable! Not one clear egg, not one blood ring, all air sacs looking good. What can I say? I'm very happy!

Just one question..is it normal, on just day three, for the embryo and blood vessels to float to the top rather quickly? I was careful to turn it to candle..but I haven't ever seen this before, and I have candled on day three, and having had them in a turner. I hope they are ok after I did that to them!
Loving this bator so far!

yup.. little embryos can float all around in the early stages.. perfectly normal on shipped and home grown eggs.. just don't spin the eggs.. jar them or shake them.. cause that will turn that little spider into a blood ring really quick

Thanks yin, was being very careful..so, all should be good, waiting until day 10 to candle again. So glad all looks well in the eggs after that bator sat in a truck for 4 and half hrs.

:ya   Now that's what I like to hear..let's blame it on the bator!
Well, I have to blame the bad hatches on my styro-hatcher, it has been tossed, I am now hatching in my igloo-cooler-bator, this set of chickies was the last to be solely incubated in the igloo :) we are up to 5 now. In the ReptiPro I set 32, 20 are growing strong, had 3 blood rings I tossed yesterday, a couple may be clears (gonna wait to check on day 10, and 2 olive eggers and a few brown eggs (naked necks) that I cannot see into.

Well shucks! I thought you had them in our new bator.

Oh well, you can blame it on the igloo! I am waiting for day 10 to candle again after what happened with the power outage, and me worried enough to candle so early..sure saw a lot going on though! I'm excited about day 10 for candling.
Good luck.

Hey, yin...darling baby duck! I love the little beaks and feet. Sooo cute. Wait, is that a duck? Or a goose? That beak looks big, and the baby looks good sized..maybe just the camera? Cute though! Looks like he/she is thinking, man, that was hard work, serious business>> that getting out thing! :)

that's a gosling.. Sebastopol X toulouse

they are SUPPOSED to take several days to finish hatching once they pip.. he wanted no part of waiting around!.. it was about 14 hours from first pip to complete hatch

Well, hatched 6 of 7, one quit looks like about a week ago. All that hatched are Minorca Easter Egger crosses. Next up will be on the 2nd of June I think... Not got my notebook in front of me.
