Reptipro 5000 Hatch-A-Long (=

I don't know about setting your temps so high. I would be afraid of cooking them, which I've done too.

I finally purchased a used Sportsman cabinet incubator & an excellent homebuilt copy of their hatcher. They both have rather large water pans that I fill with very warm/hot water. However the temp of the water cools off alot to barely warm, by the time I refill them. I don't think you should expect the water temps to stay the same as a developing egg. I don't know and I don't claim to know about these units, but I thought you might be interested in knowning what I have discovered with my cabinet incubator water temps. I have to refill water in the Incubator today. I will check the temp of the water, just out of curiousity.

I am getting excellent hatch rates now, compared to the death and destruction of alot of eggs in my old Hovabator styros.

I think the Reptipros look like a great product and was seriously ready to buy. Then I found these used models, (while I was waiting for the new 6000 to come out) for a very good price and opted for the extra room.

How are your eggs doing at candling? I set mine every Friday and move hatching eggs to the hatcher on Tues's. I candle everything on Fridays (7, 14 & 18 days).
I can see movement in the eggs sometimes at 7 days and for sure at 14 and then on. I just use a rather inexpensive LED flashlight.

I saw the reptipro video on adjusting temperature based on water temp, but Its been my experience an open container of water will run about 7 to 10 degrees cooler than air temperature due to evaporative cooling. I never tried but a sealed container should work.

I agree - I just did a water test with an open container and I had to set the temp at 41C/106F to get 99.5F water temp (so yes about 7F difference). I will try a closed container today and report back with results. I really don't want to lose another entire batch of chicks.

UPDATE: I have tried a closed container of water with a setting of 41C/106F and it reads 102F or 4 degrees less. I set it back to 40C/104F and I get water temps of 100.5F which seems just about right. What's strange is, that's the temp setting I just used for this last hatch. Now I'm completely clueless as to what's going wrong. I'm going to try another batch Sunday using a temp setting of 40C/104F which will give me an air temp of 101.5F and a water temp of 100.5F and add a small container at the bottom to maintain humidity at 35-40% instead of 29-32%.

I'm confident about the water temp because i monitor it and raise the humidity by raising the temp of the water in the humidity pan using a small aquarium heater. If the water is at 91 degrees and I raise it to about 99 degrees I can increase the rh from 40 percent to 70 percent without increasing surface area of the water. Warm water evaporates better.

Tomorrow my eggs will be on lock down! This will be my first time using the Reptipro 6000. So hopefully they will hatch. I can't wait.

Well so far 9 out of the 17 have hatched!!!!!!! This is probably the best hatch I have ever had. I love this incubator! I see more holes in the eggs, so hopefully more will hatch. Oh and by the way I dried incubated. This was also the first time I had ever dried incubated. I like this method and I am sticking with it!

Ok. You guys have got me so excited that I just pulled the plug on a ReptiPro6000 with two egg turners for the kids! This post has been so exciting! Now I just need to get to looking for some hatching eggs soon. Thank you all so much for all of the wonderful posts and helpful info. This place is so full of wonderful bird lovers who are willing to help one another. :)
