Reptipro 5000 Hatch-A-Long (=

Update!!

The site was down so I emailed ReptiPro directly and his reply came in MINUTES!! He helped me sort out what the incubator was doing and was very patient with my dumb questions.

So there is an internal fan and external (I'm sure you guys all know that). The one inside DOES run continously and it is the external one that you hear cycling on and off. I tested it and yep, that's what it's doing. If you put your hand inside in front of the fan when you don't hear the external fan you can feel the internal fan blowing. I was having a 5 degree temp difference too but as the incubator ran for a little longer and I quit messing with it, it evened out. It's held it's exact temp since about noon yesterday. Yay!! The turners work awesome and the whole thing is ready to rock!! My eggs should come today!!

I have 2 more emu eggs to go in the bator later today or tomorrow morning.. and #6 has been mailed! So I should have it in a few days

I have found that the larger emu eggs won't fit 3 to a shelf side by side.. so I had to stagger the middle one forward a bit to get them to fit. The last two eggs I got are smaller.. so they should fit fine on the shelf with the last one when it gets here.

i have the bator set at 99.. the very bottom registers 96 on my thermometers (I have tried 6 different ones in there at the same time and they were all reading the same). So I put some cut egg cartons (the bottom of the carton cells were cut out) on the bottom of the incubator and set a shelf on top of them for the first 3 eggs. The last 3 eggs will go on the other shelf.

Doing it this way the tops of the lowest eggs register at 97.5 degrees and the bottom of the uppermost eggs will also be at 97.5 degrees

Thank you Chris/Reptipro for posting on this thread, it's so nice to have good customer service! I'm sure it's a long shot but I have a suggestion that could certainly boost your sales, I know there's a 30 day warranty on it but you should make a special offer exclusively for BYC members. The site has like 500,000 members (632 online now!), all of which have poultry in their life & the section with the most replies is "Incubating & Hatching eggs" so anyway for all the BYC members that buy Reptipros from you, should get an extended warranty, like at least 3 or 6 months? I've done a ton of research on them & really the only problem people had were the units dying after an amount of time (usually 6-12 months). Of course there are always bad apples in the bunch so you can expect some will have issues. Word of mouth is the best advertisement & within the last week I know of at least 2 members that have bought a reptipro soley based on other member's recommendion. I always refer people to buy them from reptipro on eBay (you) & I like mine so much that I talk highly of it every chance I get...I'd gaurantee the members on this site have "sold" dozens of units by telling others how well it works without you even knowing it lol. Just saying this is a great place to demonstrate your customer service & in general it would be nice to have a longer warranty with it being such an awesome incubator for the price, 30 days is barely enough time for one hatch...or maybe 1 month warranty then a 3 or 6 month limited warranty, one that only applies if the unit dies.

Thanks Jen for posting that info, I knew it had a fan but not that there's 2, one constant one not. Soooo did your eggs come today or what? Oh I hope so & all in good shape, I know the feeling of waiting for them then when they come you can't open the box fast enough lol! Well that's me anyway, I'm really keeping my fingers crossed for you to get a good hatch with our reptipros, actually I really hope everyone does!!

Yinepu, I'm so darn envious of your SIX emu eggs, I want some so bad & don't have even one. I ordered emu chicks 5 years ago while in high school & I adored them, they were so fun! I did buy 2 eggs off eBay & tried to hatch them in my Little Giant (I made styro foam extensions making it tall enough but now I realize they didn't have a chance. Did you have all of them shipped? I finally found a seller close enough for me to pick them up a few hours away, I'm worried about shipping damage since I heard the larger the egg the easier they're damaged & after 12 big geese eggs arriving scrambled I'm pestimistic...well emu eggs are probably a lot tougher then geese, can you candle them or no way? When I had mine at 15 I didn't know about candling. I'm so glad one of us on the thread has them, I'd love for them to hatch for you, are you sure you want to keep all 6 if they hatch? Yea I didn't think so, so just send them my way (=

Melissa how did your hatch turn out? Last I heard you had one lemon cuckoo out with5 others pipped, I was hoping your other colors would make it too...most of all where are the pics!? I should make that a thread requirement lol, after following others' posts for 21-50+ (emus) days it starts to feel like they were your eggs hatching too. Are you putting anymore eggs in?

I candled today (day 4) trying to see if I could see veins yet & I don't think it's looking to good for me )=. The seller's shipping & fertility is just amazing but this time the USPS reaaaaally roughed them up with 9 detached sells & all 30 remaining eggs having damaged aircells, at least they are still attached...well anyways I only saw 13 definite growing but hopefully there's more since it is early on the incubation

If you want some more goose eggs I can send you some crosses.

. I have four geese. The male is a Black African and the three females are two White Chinese and one French Toulouse. The females all lay in one nest so I don't know who's eggs belong to who but if you ever want any just let me know

love.gif
. I have never hatched any of them because four is my limit on geese but the male is pretty much always mating with them so they should be fertile. They will start laying next month in February and I can crack a few open to see if they have a bullseye.

I bought mine after doing tons of research here

All of them are shipped eggs. I only know of one place near me where they have emu and I haven't been able to get in touch with them yet. I doubt they would let me have any eggs though since it's one of those "wild animal parks" and I don't think they like to mess with the boys while they are setting eggs.

I have gotten a lot of shipped eggs since this past summer.. some were good hatches and some weren't so good. So in all I have about a 50% hatch rate on shipped eggs in general. So if half of the emu eggs hatch out I will be surprised. And to be quiet honest I have already reserved 3 more eggs from one breeder for the end of this month to go in one of my Brinsea incubators.. and will try to get another 3 for the other one (so hopefully 12 emu eggs total).

As for candling them.. not gonna happen .. lol.. they make Marans eggs look easy! There is a "thump" test you can do on the eggs during incubation to see if they are any good or if the chick has pipped into the air cell. When you tap or thump on the shell the tone will change as things change inside the egg. For the early stages you pretty much have to go by egg weight to make sure they are losing the right amount.. and if they stop losing weight chances are that either the chick died or the egg wasn't fertile in the first place (or damaged in transit).

and egg #6 will be here Friday morning!!!

My Post Office is run by a bunch of ninnys. They said that they attempted to deliver yesterday at 4:44 but there is absolutely ZERO chance that even happened. I was home after 1:30 and pretty much staring out the window. Not only did the eggs not come, and the delivery attemp not happen....WE DIDN'T EVEN GET OUR REGULAR MAIL!!!

I even called them yesterday the minute they opened and told them I was waiting for a package and that it was EXTREMELY FRAGILE AND EXTREMELY TIME SENSITIVE!! The lady took all my info and promised to call. No call
