Reptipro 5000 Hatch-A-Long (=

No shelf liner to tell you the truth I wasn't expecting any to hatch started with 8 and had them sitting for about a week without turning in my room. I was even going to throw them out and go camping with my family but my brother's baby was born and what you know it a few hours later the first chick hatched LOL

I line the shelves with this stuff:

I get it at walmart.. it has small holes in it so air can flow through. but the holes are small enough that the chicks have no problems with their feet or legs . it also works well in the brooder for prevention of spraddle legs since they can get a good grip on it as they are learning to walk

Me too, I get mine at our dollar store. Here's a picture of how I use it in the brooder for a while. When I have them in lock down, I just lay it along the shelf.

These are my little Welsh Harliquins I hatched out last year. I love the liner. It's great for chicks feet especially, so they don't slip around.

Looks like I'll be using that next time. Second chick did get spraddled legs but thier fine now after I put tape on it. Both chicks are now walking all around the brooder and pecking at everything the see they both are eating just fine but I haven't seen the second one drink any water its looks prett confortable though. Should I be concerned?

Just do the dip the beak in the water a few times, it should get the idea after a few times, then they really do watch the others drink, and copy them. :) Remember, they don't need too much anyway for about three days. I've found that they do like to drink a little more than eat before the three day period.

I'm going to try an R-Com King Suro-20 EX (external humidity pump model).

I have the Reptipro Auto Egg Turner available for $50 + $15 Priority Shipping. PM me if interested.

Will keep the ink-ee-bator as a food cooler/warmer that can run on battery in case of power outage unless you make me an offer I can't refuse ;>)

. Any suggestions on how many eggs I should do my 1st test with .I'll be hatching silkies. So excited haven't incubated in years.Hope the reptipro makes it easy. I am going this route so my 5 year old can see them hatch, just like my dad did for me when I was a kid.I especially appreciate reptipro supports 4-H/FFA

I first incubated 8 got 3 to lockdown and 2 hatched and doing great. I blame my temp the firs t 3 or so days. This time around I had 18 and left with 6 on day 7. I trusted the reptipro readout and was wrong incubator was reading 99 and actual temp was 103

. Most were clear though and a few blood rings,

If you read the thread you will see that we use a trusted thermometer on the individual levels for our temps. What you need to know is what the temp is on the levels that you intend to use for incubation. Remember, you also need to be opening the door several times a day for air exchange due to the RP not having the same type of ventilation system as the styros.
Personally, while I know that my RP is typically set at 102-103, I ignore the read out and only go by the thermometer on the shelf.
