Hello! Before I get into it I’ll share my temporary hashed together setup with you!

I used a spot thermometer on the towel under the lamp and it’s reading 89-98
Feeding her crumbled non-medicated 18% feed mixed with a dash of UltraKibble, boiled egg.
I mixed rooster booster in her water as instructed but diluted it by 50%(wasn’t sure if it would be ok this strong for new chicks)
She passed two urate poops with no food in it yet.

Ok anyways…
So I got a call from the feed store that they had a mysterious chick appear in the group and they wanted me to come get it—just so happens to be a silky chick!!! which is what I’ve been wanting.

Here’s the problem…
When I got her she was ice cold. They had let the chicks sit out because they were struggling to sort with being understaffed.
Her poop was lime green until half an hour ago.
She’s been drinking and eating a Ton, and now she’s sneezing up water and seems to be uncomfortable…

I’ve never had a freshed hatched silky chick, and I’m not sure what the sudden sneezing is about. It didn’t start until she drank the water.

Now she’s more active, very hungry, drinking, and screams at me whenever I try to leave her.

Here’s a picture of her “oh crap is this what it’s like to eat…”

Maybe she snorted some water.

She needs a friend, why did you bring home only one?

Crushing the feed a little extra into a powder can help.

Definitely cute! :love

Oh thank you!!! <3
It was so odd how it happened! I originally wanted 3 silkies but this breeder I got them from gave me 3 satins instead, (LOVE them!) I was going to ask her for a true silkie just to have one—- because they’re my favorite….
And an hour after I messaged her, my phone was ringing off the hook!

I’m going to give this chick my all and will definitely keep you updated!

I’m hoping that’s all!
I have 3 almost 2 week old satin chicks in a separate area in my room, and they’ve been doing a bit of sneezing too, today they’re doing a little better though, maybe it was a chicken cold.

The store didn’t have any more silkies- she was a mistake and a really sick one. They had only larger breed birds and meat birds this week!
I figured If she makes it I’ll start trying to mix her with the three Satin silkies when she hits a week old? Until then I guess I won’t have a life :jumpy

Okay!!! I’ll try to run her feed through a coffee grinder! I hope what she ate so far won’t cause any blockage ;;

I just do a little by hand using the side of a glass or bottom of a jar since they eat so little..

It won't cause blockage, grit enough for digestion is included.

It can just be easier to swallow for some of the "less smart" babies, for lack of a better description.

No supplement should be given more than 10 days in a row. I usually do the first drinker full for a bunch more chicks. I would change that out within a few days (or sooner), to prevent stuff from growing.

Life's gone to the animals, it always does! :)

Thank you for the advice!!
I’ll make sure to switch things out in a couple days if she’s still doing well!

I’m so excited to see her grow up to be a beautiful fluffy girl!

Little update:
She survived the night!!! Thinking of naming her Lilac.

However today she is a bit wobbly and she seems way more lethargic. I mashed up some boiled egg and gave it to her. Eating, drinking, pooping is fine. She’s much less vocal and just standing in one place. Everytime I leave for something she cries her head off and gets weaker.

I’m wondering if adding a sleepy 2 week old would give her some encouragement- or maybe yesterday was just stressful and she needs some r & r.

Also got the scale out to start tracking her weight. She’s exactly 1 oz. xD
