Rescue Mission? Help me decide if I should do it or not!

I don't know how much you know about quarantine, why you do it or how. Very few of us are in a position to do a proper quarantine and this sounds like a situation where a good quarantine is probably a good idea.

I don't know what your goals are for having chickens or how well these specific chickens would meet those goals. That kind of stuff is up to you and your personal preferences.

Personally I'd be very reluctant to do this on the spur of a moment. I appreciate the opportunity to get a bunch of free chickens but I like to have chickens that fit my goals and get them on my terms.

From the sounds of it, with your current setup, I would say no. I have a setup with plenty of buildings where they could stay, we've even kept a quarantined flock(similar situation to yours actually) in an extra livestock trailer... but it doesn't seem like you have the proper options to really truly keep your flock safe.

Adding adult birds is a huge risk because they could easily bring diseases to your existing birds. It also is quite stressful for both groups. I wouldn’t do it if I where you, and if you want the best for those chickens, don’t bring them home. Your chickens could spread things to them, and they could spread things to your chickens. This would make your attempt at improving their lives pointless.

We ended up deciding against it plus someone else stepped up for them so it just wasn't meant to be. We have 8 buildings on our property so I could have worked something out but I have so many breeds I want to get this spring it just wouldn't make sense to take on this many and risk crazy roos!

WHEW!!
Good 'decision'!

It sounds like too much of a sacrifice to put your girls in your garage instead of letting them continue to enjoy the accommodations that you built for them. Acquiring a few more chickens is one thing but I wouldn’t displace my already happy flock to do so. Just a thought.
