Maybe if you put a blanket over the cage covering the other sides it could help trap some heat in? Or just fill a milk jug or something with hot water. Gatorade will work I think if you can't get the electrolytes, or even just a little sugar and teeny bit of salt in the water, to help give them a boost.
Careful about the hot water bottle, as they don't hold heat for long, then they get cold, so you'll have to check them often.
Do you have a heating pad (electric) like the ones for aches and pains? I've put one of those under the pan of a cage (just only under half) so they could sit and the warmth would rise up to them. Warmth makes a big difference.
I'll keep my fingers crossed for you. There's nothing worse than a sick kid.
Thanks everyone for the help. I really appreciate it! I had Floyd out and was loving on him before going to bed and he had an incredibly watery bowel movement. It's hard to explain. It was like it was intact feces with mostly clear water just expelled out around it with of course the uric acid ("white stuff"). Is this normal? Pardon my bluntness. I'm used to talking so openly about bodily (and animal-like!) functions.
I don't know if his bowel movement is normal, hopefully someone can answer that question for you. You should be able to get corid at any local grain store.
This morning when I woke up I saw that Floyd had some horrible pasty butt all night. I think he's losing weight, too. I've decided to haul ass after classes today and get them what I hope they need. A heat lamp, corid, and some electrolytes. How do you guys usually get rid of pasty butt?
Try to give them some cut up hard boiled egg-with-yolk and/or yogurt for protein. It's a treat and might help get something in their little bodies. Hopefully they will feel better when you get a proper heat lamp. Little ones need a lot of heat at that age. They are supposed to be kept at 85-90 degrees 24/7, sounds like your going to get them one soon. Hopefully they can snap back to their old selves! Good luck. He's turning into a handsome boy.
Alright while I was at school my boyfriend was able to pick up Corid and some electrolytes and some new feed on his lunch break! What a sweetheart!
He really loves my chickens, too!
We're about to head out to Wal-Mart to get them a red heat bulb then I should have them all set to get perked back up. I'll let yall know how it goes! Thanks SO MUCH again for the help and suggestions. I love this forum.
I'm going to get someone to come in and feed them a hardboiled egg while we're gone, too.
