These chicks have come from a hard 1st month of upbringing,....a person we know bought these for her kids at a farm supply store about a month ago. She brought them to me to see if they were male or female a week ago,..when I seen them, they had bloody raw feet from being kept on bath towels and in a laundry basket. They were and are still very dirty with broken crusty feathers. I told her how to take care of them and did what I could for them and she returned home with them,...yesterday she calls to ask me to take them. I was glad to,...They are now living in a dog crate,..which is temporary,...and getting to free range in the yard. They are so happy! They have never been in the sun,.. much less eat a blade of grass. They still look a little rough,..and I believe their growth has been stunted to a point. I know these two are hens,..but I am curious to what breed they are. The barred one looks to be a barred rock, but she has a pea comb? I,m guessing on that,...and the other I am not sure,..she has black legs down to her toes,..then they turn yellow. She almost looks like an Australorp. I would love to have some opinions on these two,..the third one which isn't pictured is a meatie (cornishXrock),...sad little fellow. I have never had any meaties,..he is so chunky! Is there any hope of one them surviving long?,..or will we have to butcher him? Take a look at these girls and let me know what you all think,..Thank you!
Barred Rock????

the barred rock looking one may be a dominique The coloring looks more dominique to me, but I am no expert!

and the other one looks kinda jersey giant-ish.

but I am just guessing

The first picture looks exactly like one of our hens we named Diana. We are trying to figure out whether she's a barred rock, a dominique or something else. But I'll tell you one thing... she is our friendliest little bird. She hops onto out our laps, hands, shoulders, etc. every time we go into the coop. I hope she stays healthy for you!

I also found out the feed store she got these from gets their chicks from Ideal Hatchery,...if that is any help.

I would guess a dominique and an australorp. If you resrict the meaties food it may be able to live longer, but if he starts suffering I think the kindest thing to do would be to process him, if you are able.

I am leaning toward Dominique for the one,..but the other looks a lot like an australorp, but doesn't have the black eyes and legs,...like I said she has some yellow on her feet,...her legs are all black till you get to her toes and they turn yellow. Plus she has some yellow in her beak,..and the white under her neck has me throwed too. I have had australorp chicks before, she doesn't seem to fit that bill. Jersey Giant,....maybe,..but she is small,...but she may have been stunted too. Any other ideas????

The first chicken is neither a Barred Rock nor a Dominique.
Barred Rocks have a Single Comb, Dominique Rose Comb yours has a Pea Comb. At best I would say it was a EE.

I thought this too,.... It does have a pea comb (I think) ,...but no beard and it has yellow legs with black wash,..no willow or slate legs and none of that distinct EE behaviour. To come from a hatchery it sure has me baffled.
