Rescued Duckling... newbie

omg - speedy was so fustrated with me yesterday cause I kept leaving his sight, and he had to come looking for me. I was cleaning and getting stuff ready to go over to my mom's for the evening, and he was out of his cage trying to keep up and follow. I guess I kept leaving the room when he'd be doing something like eating, drinking, or preening... cause when he found me the last time in the bathroom, he sat down in the middle of the floor glaring at me lol and then he'd start to preen but every few seconds would stop and give the evil eye it seemed to make sure I was still where he left me. It made me laugh and feel bad at the same time!

I hope my dog will come around, I thought he had. He gave me a bit of a fright last night, speedy was following me around and tripped over the dog bowl right before bed. Liam started to eat it, he prefers to eat off the carpet anyhow rather than out of his bowl. Speedy went up to him to poke at his front paw elbow... Liam turn and growled, snapped at him, speedy came running and tripped over his now huge feet, took a tumble and jumped into my lap shaking... he climbed up on my shoulder burying himself into my hair. Liam has NEVER behaved like that to another animal... he even babied and mothers my youngest kitten. In fact, I wouldn't have believed it of him if I hadn't of seen it because he's a huge wussy!

I wouldn't even worry about that. My dog snipped and snips at my duck on a regular basis lol it's more like a "hey you're annoying me" or "hey that's mine" I wouldn't worry about that. It's funny because now if my dog is bothering my duck my duck does the same thing now, like snips and runs after her.

He scared speedy pretty bad though speedy won't come over to me if he sees him there now. Came running to me tonight and skidded to a stop as soon as he saw Liam. I know they'll get over it as speedy gets bigger, just wanted them to get along so speedy wouldn't be lonely. I still haven't found another one yet, and now I'm wondering if it's gonna be to late.

Maybe Mother to Moose dog hasn't gotten over the top but please don't ever let your guard down It will only take 1 sec for something to happen.

Always better to be safe than sorry.

Once you get another duck you'll just have to slowly introduce Speeding and the new one they will eventually become best friends ducks love ducks. lol

I honestly couldn't imagine have 2 ducks inside especially when they're older lol I agree though, definitely don't let your guard down, it's in a dogs blood to hunt so you wouldn't want anything to happen. But I think once the speedy is bigger they'll bond. I introduce my duck to other dogs (like family or something) and they literally are all so scared of her. She tries to walk up to them and these dogs run for dear life.

The whole second duck thing I say though because ducks are so messy, mine just experienced her first July malt and let me tell you, we have to vacuum 2 times a day to keep up with all the feathers inside. Plus when they eat and drink they splash water EVERYWHERE lol I'm definitely thankful she and my dog bonded so well once she got bigger.

However, if I did ever get a chicken coop for her I would probably get another duck then just so she had an outside friend

meet Fancy. Thank you for suggesting craigslist, i dont know why i did not think of it. I went and got her that night. They said shes only 3 weeks, but he put up the add on the 25about 5 to 6 weeks and speedy is 4 to 5, since i think he was only a week or less when i rescued him. She is twice his size but her wings are a lot smaller, and quite frankly, shes psycho lol. I know it's because she was pen raised and the only interaction with humans kinda taught her to be scared of them. She runs from me all the time and goes crazy in the cage if I go near it, but once I've caught and held her a while she seems calm... But nope let her down or put her back and she forgets I was nice and she liked me holding her and goes crazy all over again. Her and speedy get along though. So that's a plus.

Newest speedy picture. Btw they also said she was a muskgeeo... her eyes flip a lot and Speedy's don't that I see, and her eyes kinda look blue. Oh and they get along fine. It's her and I that is the problem lol but I know I did the right thing when I catch her playing with the balls in the cage.
