Rescued Hen - What is she?

Someone had a hen in downtown Chicago and decided that she needed more room. I was contacted and asked if I would take her. Below is the pic of her they sent. I'll get more pics to post.

Anyway, when I got her, she had poop all over her and she is crapping out whole sunflower seeds, so I'm guessing they didn't not give her grit. She weighs at least 8lbs and her feathers are kind of ragged. I cannot tell if she is a meat chicken or if they just fed her junk and she never got to run. Some of her large wing feathers are almost black.

She has been drinking water non-stop, but started eating right away. She didn't even care that the other chickens were looking at her.

She looks like a Rhode Island Red a dual purpose chicken basing on the photo.

I was thinking that, as well, but she is so fat it is hard to tell. There should be some kind of law against buying animals if the person does not know how to take care of them.
They told me she is a year old. I don't know if that is true. She looks pretty ragged in person.

Going to take quite some time to get her back in good shape. Wonder if they have treadmills for chickens.

Your girl looks like my old New Hampshire Red did. They are a dual purpose breed I think, because she was good eating (once she got too old to lay well).
