Rescued Mute Male

I got a mute male today that was about to be destroyed because he was aggressive toward other swans and waterfowl. They had a trio of mutes, a pair of black necks, and a pair of blacks and numerous ducks and geese. A few weeks one of the mutes from his trio died due to injuries from him. He never was aggressive toward people. He recently suffered an injury to his leg and was separated into a pen where he could be monitored and his leg could cleaned and dressed daily. He would always squat in submission to the caregiver. My concern is that I have 2 young kids, 6 and 8. Would it be safe for him to stay here or should I allow him to be destroyed? He is such a magnificent bird. I couldn't bare to see him disposed of. I have never had a swan, so I am not really familiar with them. I have more chickens than anyone should, hatched a peachick 2 1/2 weeks ago, and tons of other livestock. Now I have this enormous bird that hisses at me. The previous owner said he would hiss but has always been submissive to the caregiver. He has not been in close contact with children. Also, If I decided to get a girlfriend, would he take to her and her to him? They are monogamous and I read somewhere that that is for life. Would it be futile to get a female and try to have them "marry" or is it possible for them to "remarry"?

He would more than likely bond to another female. I would always be careful with any large bird and children.... Children act and move different and can trigger actions that may never be given to adults by birds. I dont have Mutes, i have Blacks, but know they can get more intolerant during breeding season...but it all depends on the bird. Shame they wanted to put him down as im sure their would be plenty of people who would like him...... You are new to him so that may be why he hisses... My geese hiss but run if i walk towards them in a controling posture. I would be careful with the children however and supervise them always when around the swan.
