Rescued Roo from next door (now known as Larry) (pics on post #30)

Larry is good. He slept in the dog house with a blanket over it because for Fla, it's cold these nights, near freezing. I think he wants to come out and play with the girls, LOL. I think he's actually limping less, maybe the diet is working. I still hate my neighbors, LOL. Thanks for asking.

hows larry doing today? any improvements on the poor guy?

Larry's fine. He went into his little dog house by himself tonight. He crows. He must be getting used to the routine here. I hope I can let him free range one day.
He's pretty vocal with his "conversations". I'm hoping he's losing some weight. Thanks for asking, I really need to take some more pics!

i've just realized your a chicken hero,

Thanks, Thedoor

I'm not a hero. I just have a stupid neighbor and I can't stand suffering. But thanks for the lovely compliment, you must be a wonderful animal lover as well!

I am glad I got to see this post.

This summer I acquired a Cornish rooster and he was quite lame.

As soon as he got over to our home he began moving around a LOT! It did not take him long to lose that limp. He is still going strong now. I know that they are prone to various issues and are truly, most likely, better off on a dinner plate than as a pet, but I keep an eye on him for health issues. I doubt he would be good eating anymore, anyway...

I could not put him in our freezer. He is way too sweet! I can't believe how good natured he is. I think he thinks he is a person and as soon as he sees us he is right there at our feet so we are almost tripping on him. He bows for us so we can pet him... Couldn't have a nicer bird!

We broke all the rules... he free ranges with the other birds, he gets along with the other roosters (I think he is no match for them just because of his massive size), or maybe he just stays out of their way...

Anyway, I would never recommend keeping one as a pet, BUT, I sure hope this one lives for awhile. And I try really hard not to allow him to overeat, but he has a great interest in running around, so keeping him on a diet hasn't been quite as hard as I thought it would be.

Strawberryfields, how much do you feed him per day? Mine's getting 2 cups a day right now and I'm not sure if it's right.

He's doing fine, except I heard they do develop bare skin patches all over them because their body is bigger than the feather growth can keep up with.
