"rescued' yet another one... (graphic pictures)

I hope so, (no pun intended lol) I feel like I am flying by the seat of my pants here. This morning she had a some fresh blood on her comb. I would say SOMEONE was not being freindly to her. She seemed ok, i wiped it off her comb. You know how they bleed. Only a small tiny peck.

what i would do is if you can, sit with a spray bottle of water and spray any showing aggression towards her- and spray the spot on the comb with bluekote- as far as cold- maybe you are already doing it, but bump up their protien with a little dog kibble a day,the increased protien will help her stay warm and feather out faster

I do not understand how people can place animals in such poor living conditions and think it is ok. Maybe they should be "encouraged" (sentenced) to live 24 hours in the coop with them under the same water, feed, and living conditions.

Re the coat fishmet - just purchase a chicken saddle, and line it with felt. That should be enough to keep her from freezing?

Dowie, I did that just yesterday! I found an 'Alaskan' saddle. Believe it or not. It's lined with fluffy fleece. Now THAT is spoiled.

I have made her about 4 differrent saddles - one in flanel, two in felt, and last night started one in flanel with fleece lining. I end up using velcro and hooking it below her crop just above her legs that way she gets some coverage on her belly. It always seems to come off. I am just not so good at sewing. I was hopeing to get a little more chest and belly coverage for her. I did the apron thing, but I was worried it would be to tight on her crop and when I made it loose, her feet would get stuck in it when she walked.

I did decide that I need to get her a friend though. She seems kinda depressed a little. She is trying to so hard on her own, and they others seem to not mind her, but they do pick on her a little. She needs a companion. I am thinking I need another smaller hen to keep her company. another RIR maybe?

I did just email my Mom a good crochet pattern for a really cool sweater though. I need to learn how to crochet!!!!

I imagine Hope clucking her version of the old Christmas song, "All I want for Christmas are some tail feathers, some tail feathers, some tail feathers." (Instead of the lyric "two front teeth")

Those fleece lined saddles look pretty good until her feathers DO grow in. She sounds like she is doing reasonably well adjusting to the flock, but I don't blame you for wanting to get her a little friend.

i thought of that. I have always wanted a silkie. I am afraid of what 'Bird would do to her if he tried to mate with her though. He is kinda big.

Here is Hope last night in her raindeer costume I got her. lol. I wanted to cut it up for a sweater. didnt work. lololol
