Rescuing Battery Hens

What about Quarantining them for a few months?

I know a lot of people who have rescued ex-battery hens and apparently it's very rewarding. If you keep them separate for a couple of months to allow them to recover, and introduce them carefully you should be fine. Please don't be put off- yes you might loose one or two along the way but it's worth it.

One thing that ive always wanted to do is rescuing some Battery Hens,They are so poorly treated.

How would i go about doing that?Where would i pick them up?

I have over 3 acres of land for chickens.

Hi

I don't know what regulations you have in the US but here in the UK all the batts have to be vaccinated and wormed by law so although they are not the prettiest looking at first - they don't carry disease.

I rescued 4 in May and despite losing one to baggy crop a week later, the rest are thriving and having a lovely life. Go for it! It's wonderful to see them grow feathers and actually get to act like chickens.

I rescued a rooster from a fight ring. He'd escaped on his own and was wandering around the neighborhood. People were throwing rocks at him, poor thing.

The previous owners had cut off his comb and wattles. I guess they do that for fighting roosters.

Anyway, he's in his own quarantine coop right now and seems happy there.

I don't need a rooster and they aren't legal in my city, but I couldn't see having people throw rocks at the poor thing. I also can't give him away because he would probably end up back in the fight business.

At this point, he'll probably live out his life in the quarantine coop. At least he doesn't crow much and the neighbors haven't complained.

He is beautiful, by the way. He's a game cock.

Bless you for rescuing him from human cruelty.
