sorry i meant to add to that post a question about natural antifungals. I know that oregano is one how do you administer oregano essential oil ? in the water? And also crushed garlic cloves I presume I have used them along with apple cider vinegar with the mother and the water in the past, but I think I should make sure that Poppy has it every day?View attachment 3939107

I thought that too because some list say not to feed garlic to your ducks, but then there’s a lot of information about garlic infused water, being healthy. I have the large jar of apple cider vinegar with the crushed garlic in the bottom , it makes the vinegar garlicy, but they’re not like eating chunks of garlic.

heyy i also started just tossing bits of fresh oregano ( from my garden- and my plant id app says it’s greek so i hope so) into the ducks food and water areas.
and a few days ago when i put a drop of oil of oregano in water buckets, even when you stir it in it floats on the surface . so then when I put some Mazuri floating waterfowl feed into the bucket,,The oregano oil coated the little balls and the ducks ate it. , leaving very little oil of oregano in the water behind. and by the way How is your duck / ducks doing!?? i seem to have hijacked your thread - sry!

That's quite all right. I'm really invested in Poppy's wellbeing now, so I like the updates. I've been meaning to ask how Poppy is doing but I'm all over the place these days.
My bunch are doing about the same, some puffy cheeks here and there. Tomorrow is the last day of Doxycycline, so I'm hoping that will sort it all out finally. Now I'm little bit worried about them getting a cold. It's been raining cats and dogs here, and the poor creatures have to be locked up in the run for most of the day so they can't get to the pond and drink unmedicated water. They get all muddy and dirty, I feel so sorry for them.
In the afternoon when they finish the meds I let them into the pond, they are always so happy to bathe.
Sadly we seem to have a marten problem. The chickens just started laying in the summer so I thought that's why there are fewer eggs than you'd expect. I know it sometimes takes time for them to lay reliably. But yesterday morning I found a headless chicken in the run. I had a marten stealing eggs like 3 - 4 years ago so I guess she's back. I don't mind her stealing the eggs too much, I have more than enough but biting my chickens heads off is not very polite of her. Do martens kill ducks too? I hope not.

Yes they will kill ducks. Set a trap with the chicken this predator killed it will be back and can kill many.

I ordered a trap, but whatever will I do with her when I catch her ? Poor thing, she too needs to eat, but preferably not my chickens.

Keep your chicken inside a secure coop at night. And your ducks. If you can't dispatch carry her off a long way from where you live and release. Preferably not close to anyone who also has poultry. Be sure to wear thick gloves when working around predators you never know about disease.

I checked the coop for security breaches and it seems to be safe. This one hen dying was my fault. She was broody and decided to sit on her eggs in the compost pile. Her eggs were all duds so I let her and She was fine there throughout August. Mom said she'll quit her brooding when she'll see there are no chicks coming. Had I known there is a Marten running around I would have moved her inside.

I'm thinking I'll get a big rooster, I read they can scare off martens.
Problem is they scare me too

Rooster can only do so much and with any predator with teeth there isn’t a lot they can do to protect themselves Or the flock. I’m sorry your hen was killed. But the best remedy is a safe secure pen and coop.
