I change the pads every morning and every evening, so I don’t think that is playing a part.Welcome to BYC. Probably due to ammonia fumes from the pee pads causing the gasping etc...
Change out the pee pads more often.
Can you record them breathing and gasping, post it to
Can you record them breathing and gasping, post it to YouTube, and post the link here?
Also, welcome to BYC!!
I posted a video in the thread. They are 4 weeks old and we hatched them. We feed them egg layer crumbles since they are Indios and grow really fast. The chick feed has too much protein and will cause problems with their bones. This is our 2nd hatch of IndiosWelcome.
Can you take a short clear video of how they are breathing and upload it to YouTube?
How old are they and how long have you had them?
What exactly are you feeding them?
We hatched them. Our 2nd hatch of IndiosWelcome to byc.
Where did you buy them?
Egg layer crumbles has too much calcium for small chicks. It is probably part of the problem.I posted a video in the thread. They are 4 weeks old and we hatched them. A faster growing chick needs more protein, not less. The higher calcium in layer feed can cause their kidneys to malfunction.
I told my husband they need chick feed, but he spoke to someone that raises Indios and was told to feed layer crumbles because of how fast they grow, and the amount of protein in chick feed is way over the amount they should have, so it’s all just so confusing to me.
