Would like to add another Vit C success story. Hen stopped eating & became listless. Her crop was not emptying. She laid a shell-less egg. We started giving her ascorbic acid in water with a syringe (1g divided into several doses per day). She stabilized, but was still sleepy, listless and not eating. We repeated the ascorbic acid on day 2. She held steady.
On day 3 she was a little improved and not quite as listless so we gave her ascorbic acid again, but this time added a very small amount of liposomal vit c (sodium ascorbate). Of the liposomal we gave her 500mg split into 4 doses spread out over the day. Within an hour of the first dose she was up and walking around. In 2 hours she went out and chased some chickens around and ate some bugs. We will continue to treat with both forms of C (probably for 5-7 days) to make sure she's fully mended: the oral Vit C delivers to different parts of the body than the liposomal, which makes both important especially since we didn't know exactly what was wrong with her.
