Hi,
I was wondering, if anyone tried MMS (activated sodium chlorite solution) for respiratory issues in adult poultry?
I noticed one of my roosters having congested breathing and lately, one of the hens which hangs near developed similar symptoms.
She also stopped laying. I'll start treating them both, just wondering about the concentration in drinking water for such small body mass.

Thank you

I started MMS treatment today. I normally use 2 drops (2 drops of sodim chlorite activated with 2 drops of 50% citric acid) for emergencies so, I decided to calculate same strength according to the body mass of hen. I came up with 8 drops per 2L of water. They where all drinking and seem to enjoy the taste. I was discarding and refilling water bowl every couple hours.
I also used stronger solution (28 drops per 750ml) in a sprayer and disinfect inside of their coop. Will continue until I see clear results. It worked for me, each and every time so hopefully, it will help my little guys too.

Short update.
It took a while but finally, my roo is back to normal, healthy condition. When we started treatment he was really miserable looking. He was coughing and I could hear that his respiratory tracts are filling with fluid. There was a foam coming from his eyes and honestly, I was debating to put an end to his suffering but have decided to try MMS as a last resort.
Treatment is simple for most animals and humans but tricky in case of chickens as it is difficult to restrict their food intake shortly before and after. There are still greens outside which are rich in VitC and they will neutralize MMS. We tried giving freshly made drink first, before letting them out. We also gave them camomile tea, since it has antiseptic properties as well and they all like both especially, when served in fancy cup or glass

. Couple hens still have some fluid in respiratory ducts and I can hear it when they go inside and it is quiet in a coop but rooster and another hen which catch (whatever that is) from him first are clear. I suspect bacterial/fungal infection, possibly a mycoplasm. I could use one of my electrotherapy devices and try plasma tube inside the coop at night but setting everything (laptop-generator-main device and plasma tube) in such a small space may be tricky and I don't fancy leaving all this equipment in the coop overnight. They may decide to watch some chicken porn instead of sleeping

. I'll keep supplying them with MMS and watch their condition but so far two chickens are saved and hopefully, we were able to eradicate this pathogen from their body, So far - so good!
