Anyone use Respirex from Natural Animal Health based out of the UK?
Some of my chickens are showing signs of respiratory illness and I ordered Respirex from the UK. I’ve tried other things like VetRx, essential oils and have even dewormed them thinking it could have been gape worm.

Welcome To BYC

Never heard of it.
Looking it up, it's plant-based extracts, so probably something similar to a remedy like VetRx, hopefully when you get the bottle, you will be able to compare ingredients.

What symptoms do you see - you mention showing signs of respiratory illness, but nothing specific, so it's hard to know which disease you may be dealing with. Viral disease like Infectious Bronchitis usually run its course within 4-6 weeks. Bacteria-like disease like Mycoplasma may require an antibiotic to treat symptoms.

Unfortunately they didn’t print the ingredients on the bottle so I can’t compare to VetRx. Symptoms are cough, lethargy, and now one of my hens has a closed eye. Help!!!

Figures that ingredients were listed LOL
Can you please post photos of the birds and their poop?

How old are they?

Check the crops to make sure they are emptying overnight, look inside beaks for signs of canker or lesions.

Hard to know what you are dealing with, you can try Tylosin to see if that helps. https://jedds.com/products/tylosin-powder?_pos=1&_sid=6e0b4024f&_ss=r

I know people swear by their plant/essential oils/homeopathic remedies, but in general they aren’t very effective. You need to isolate the effective chemical and administer it in an effective manner at an effective dose without causing toxicity. Penicillin is a derivative of bread mold, many antibiotics are likewise produced by bacteria or fungi. Botulism toxin is used therapeutically in small doses (Botox) but is highly lethal in higher doses. Selenium is a vital nutrient but toxic at high levels. You can’t give penicillin orally to ruminants as it breaks down in the rumen and won’t be effective. Treating a virus with an antibiotic is pointless. A general immune stimulant (nasalgen or inforce in cattle) might help but I’m not sure if there is a bird version?

They are 4-5 months old. Their is poop is runny and the one with the eye closed opened it and I saw bubbly like secretions coming out this that one eye. I’m thinking mycoplasma at this point. I see that Tylan treats that and read that there is a 14day egg withdrawal period. What are your thoughts on all of this?

Bubbles in the eye can often indicate MG. Tylosin is commonly used to treat symptoms of MG. At 4-5months old are they laying eggs yet?
Used to be there was no withdrawal period when using Tylosin, but that may have changed. It is an antibiotic I would use.

Do flush eyes with saline and apply an ointment like Terramycin in the eyes too.

They have not started laying yet but I also have older hens that are laying. I ordered the Tylosin like you suggested. I hope it works as I’ve tried so many different things at this point. I really appreciate all your advice and input!
