Rest in Peace, Dearest Daphne

She was my first duck, an introduction to the crazy and wonderful world of duck ownership. She taught me so much. She survived a fisher attack that took out the rest of her family 5 years ago before coming into my life. She survived so many crises. She was a lover of mealworms, and an adoptive mother to her Muscovy “daughters” and a loving sister to Matilda.

Daphne sadly has a prolapsed vent, and after a tough spring and at least 5 years of reproductive issues, I think this is it. I can not let her suffer.

I’m at the emergency vet now as I can not do it myself.

I love you, Daphne, and I’m sorry I couldn’t give you one more summer.

I'm so sorry :hugs:(

I don't know that there is any greater expression of love than that of releasing your beloved from endless pain and suffering, knowing you will have to continue on without them.

You and Daphne were lucky to have each other in your lives. I am so sorry for your loss and proud of you for making such a hard decision in the best interest of your girl.

She was an amazing duck, and you clearly loved her completely!

Ugh, my white Muscovy has chosen a really bad time to go broody. I wasn’t even 100% sure that she was laying, but I found her secret nest today, just as she lost her mind. This is bad, as she is the meanest broody and wants to take it out on Matilda. Without Daphne to protect her, Tildy is in a bad place. I had to lock up Miss Broody tonight in a dog crate. Hopefully she will be ok with lots of bedding and a small snack and water (which I’m sure she’ll spill). I’m not feeling up to dealing with her antics right now. :hit
