Rest in Peace Nugget

I'm glad you have finally decided to write about him. I think that is a fitting tribute to a larger than life rooster (both literally and figuratively!) You'll have plenty of stories to fill a whole series! I can't wait for it!

Oh, Kate, I Just now saw this, and my heart flopped. I started reading from the begining, and even though I read the title, I wasn't expecting it. I am so sorry. I am so in tears right now, for you, for Nugget, and for his special buddies Woo, Babette and Tux.

That is so beautiful, I've never seen it before and I love it.

Thank you all for your thoughts and your sentiments, your remembrances of Nugget. He did touch a lot of people, he was such a gentle giant and it was so fun to watch little kids stop to see him and I'm trying to get hold of a picture I had of him standing next to this little toddler. The mom stopped to ask her daughter could touch a chicken because she'd never seen one before, she picked the "big red one". She was standing next to Nugget and he was about 2 inches taller than her!
We are going to bury our big red one today, and he's taking all his favorite snacks with him. He used to get mad at Woo when I had her little apron on her, I think it bothered him because he didn't know what it was and he'd try and pull it off of her. I was thinking this morning of when Woo and Nugget were babies and we thought Woo was the roo and Nugget was the hen, and Woo disappeared one night. We walked acres for hours with Nugget in our hands screaming for her and we never found her. She turned up the next day or two with wounds like she'd been grabbed and carried away. It was shortly after that we found out they were the opposite sex and suddenly Nugget started growing into a giant and Woo stayed a tinier than usual banty lady. But they were bonded to the end and Woo won't look at another roo.
Puddy had steak and taters for dinner and he kept watching for Nugget to try and steal his mashed taters, I have to wonder if Puddy knows he's gone. Babette duck loved him so much and since she is afraid of the other ducks she would sleep snuggled with Nugget, Tux, and Woo. Nugget would always make Babette a nice bed in the straw, and he didn't care if that hen was a bit funny looking at all! He made sure she a got fry before the other ones did.
It's going to be a different world in the yard now. I did start writing though, what I'm envisioning as a children's book: Nugget the Big Red Rooster.

Between your amazing writing skills and Nugget's entertaining stories, I think a whole series of Nugget tales would be in order! He can bring joy to many even with his passing. I miss Nugget!

Oh...here I go again...the water works.

I did get a great piece of news a short time ago, one of my classroom projects got totally funded this morning, and even though the donor was anonymous I honestly think it was one of Nugget's friends who decided to support my class. If it was I just want you to know that my students are going to be so happy on Monday morning that one of our projects will be supplied. It had to be one of you, the timing is just too coincidental.

I am just stunned hearing this news.

I am so sorry that he didn't make it. Nugget was my favorite thing to read about on here. I showed him to everyone that came near my computer.

Nugget will be remembered forever, and now his memory will touch the lives of so many young people through the incubator that was donated by one of our members through our classroom projects link. Nugget passed away on Ellie's birthday, and she honored his memory in a very touching, and special way.
Thank you.

That is just like Ellie, who has been a fabulous friend and support to me over this entire year! How wonderful, Kate! And in 2010, when you need some eggs for that bator, l'd love to help you out again with that. Bravo, Ellie!
