While I also wanted to mention that when I was a server I often told people that I would not serve them for many reasons. They were to intoxicated or starting fights or closing time. I always said to there protest that I am not telling you that you can not drink anymore, just that you can not drink here anymore tonight. This restaurant is not telling this woman she can't drink just they will not serve her!

Even one drink of alcohol can affect a developing fetus. If the mother is older or has a liver that doesn't process alcohol completely for some reason one drink is enough to cause damage to the developing fetus. And doctors who just throw off that "sure you can have a drink every once in awhile" without checking liver function and looking into past drug and alcohol use as well as medical history that may have affected the liver are playing fast and loose with whatever information the alcohol industry has paid for in their latest studies that say it's okay for everyone to drink it up.
And it's STILL her body and SHE gets to decide what to put in it.

= Blogger says

the expectant mother ordered a glass of Chardonnay. The waitress responded,"We don't serve pregnant women here."

NOT you can't have wine because your pregers. lol.... Bad stuff... do they serve midgets or tall people ?

But seriously... In th UK.

You have a right to refuse any person service ..... BUT the reason you wont serve them needs to be within certain boundaries.

If You choose to make a judgement like that for someone without it being law that "pregers ladies don't drink" Rather than "You are drunk ... therefore I have the right to refuse to serve you alchahol" You can be done in a court of law. (In Europe. jmho)

The judgement of a waitress or management on whether a lady could do so would come way too close to some religiously motivated ideas ... "And it harm non do as you will" ... who is the waitress to judge the merits of one glass off wine ? Two or three I'd shift my view

True it's her body, but when you're pregnant there's another person and their body involved who has no say so in what they're subjected to.

I think alcohol is in a whole separate class than caffeine. Fetal Alcohol Syndrome comes to mind among other things. Would any of you put wine in your babys bottle??? The alcohol consumed by the mother is also consumed by the growing baby inside of them. This brings up a huge debate because it is not the same as an obese person eating a hamburger…..that person is only hurting themselves. In my opinion, women that want to do drugs and drink while they are pregnant are not ready to take care of a child. You are only pregnant for 9 months and that is the most crucial time for your babys development and so many things can go wrong without the added risk…… then you have to raise that child for 18 + years and there might be bigger task ahead. Disabilities, delays, prematurity….etc. Definitely not worth the risk.

I'm going to age myself, but I had such hard pregnancies that I was told to drink a few ounces of wine with my first 3 kids. I was not a drinker, so it was hard to even get it down, but I did it.

Have you noticed that since we've been told what we can and can't have, the life expectancy for American's has dropped? There are things say, out parents, grandparents and great grandparents did and lived (in my family) to be in their hundreds. Times change, everything is bad so not allowed and people die younger. My mom died in April and she was the last of all of her siblings and lived to be much older than all of them. Most died at 50, none smokers, no drugs, no alcohol. My mom had just turned 70. No where near even what their grandparents lived to be, but 25 to 30 years.

JMO, but I feel like I'm stuck in the movie Demolition Man.

Remember this is not about her right to drink. We all know she has that right weather we like it or not we like it.

This is not about her rights alone. Its about where her right to drink falls compared to the business right to refuse to serve.

This could also be seen the same way with other unhealthies....

This subject stirs me up! I also want to add to my previous statements that if a woman can not go a simple 9 months without having a glass of wine she is in fact an alcoholic and should be going to counseling to get this addiction under control before becoming a mother!

Sorry, the other "person" doesn't get a vote. I'm sure if they did they'd be pretty upset at some of the diets these pregnant women are on or the other activities they're involved in but this is getting too close to another topic that will get this thread shut down so I'll back off and take care of my own FAS kids for now.
