results of my first hatch.....

Donnie

You set me on the right path. Red Stars are soooo close to RiRs that I doubt they know they they have red stars. I just went out and vent sexed the "RIR" and the 2 white chicks. Both the white ones are roos and all RIR"are hens so I would say they are red stars which makes me a happy camper." I was considering buying red stars from Mcmurry's in the spring. The red star chicks on McMurry's site are identical are to mine.

I've noticed the same thing. I've hatched four broods thus far, and not a single one has had pasty butt, and they are SO much less noisy than feed store chicks. They just sound contented all the time.

I think feed store chicks have the shipping stress, then the crowding in the big bins, and being handled by everybody different, and then being trucked home in little boxes, mixed with other chicks from other bins, etc.

Our hatchlings go straight from the incubator across the room (or across the house) into brooders with their own hatch-mates. NO stress. Just loving hands....
