When I first joined BYC in late 2009, I swear I saw a recipe for "Mean Rooster & Dumplings" but now I can't find it. At the time, I thought it was a real hoot, but now I want to actually find that recipe to try it. Well, have "somebody" <*glancing in HH's direction*> prepare that specific recipe and let ME try it.

I look a little sketchy today. During the night, Smudge monopolized half of my pillow. He stretched, and - as is typical of sleepy cats - flexed his front paws. On my face. Right next to my left eye. Flex, expose claws, curl paws with wicked scimitars dragged across my face.... Oh, it was a memorable way to wake up, lemme tell ya! I 'bout thought he'd torn my eyelid.

Smudge's leisurely stretch was abruptly curtailed as I erupted upwards from supine to Flailing Amongst The Dogs And Blankets. Smudge launched himself from the bed to Get Out Of Dodge. Dooley dutifully barked at the doorway into the bedroom without knowing what was wrong. Zorro grumpily found a new position and went back to sleep while I checked my visage in the bathroom mirror.

My turning on the light triggered Carl's crowing out in the coop. Which began the Crow Fest.

I dunno if Simba was already awake or not, but I did hear him rattle his hutch on the other side of the guest room doorinto the bathroom.

The scratch is very tender. I slathered Neosporin on it, repeating the application after my morning shower a couple of hours later.

Thanks, Smudge. He hasn't a clue what he did wrong. After all, he was probably asleep when he stretched and Mom screeched like a banshee for no apparent reason, scaring everybody except Zorro out of their wits.

get him some soft paws, then he can claw all he wants.

For the first day of 2012, I got up off my significantly large butt and FINALLY painted the entire front of the coop. Changed the color from yellowy-green to dark green. (Only a small portion had been painted the lighter color; the rest was still Kilz2 primer white.) Got the first cover coat on, and there are some finishing bits left. I did put the wreath back on the people door because I think it looks nice there. I'll eventually put either a wooden or metal sign there. Haven't decided which to put where.

I am thinking I kinda like the vertical white stripes. Maybe I like them because I know it's a pain to get a brush in there to cover them...

Anybody wanna ring in with an opinion?

I had a LOT of "helpers" and critics, which I kept having to step over to finish painting. So I tossed out some strawberry tops to distract them for a while.

Whoops! One of the Toulouse geese hurrying to join the fray. (I'll have to eat some more strawberries and make a second Treat Toss in a while.)

I love green, and am also a fan of neutral, natural, blend-in-with-the-landscape type colors. For that reason, I'd be in favor of painting the stripes. But you should do what appeals most to you.
Ps both of my coops are green!

What color are you going to paint the top? I think it would look good in white and maybe add a bit more white trim around the vent/window and the door.

Erk. The top section is asbestos siding from waaay back in the past. I wasn't planning on trying to paint that siding - it's got wavy lines in it. I'd have to slather a LOT of paint on it, and I'm not sure it would stick to it like it does to wood.

I have a nifty metal "Est. 2011" sign with a rooster and hen silhouette. It will show up on the gray top section, probably place it to one side of the "Chez Poulet" wood sign up there. As to contrast, I was actually thinking of - eventually - using the yellow-green paint to make chicken tracks across the dark green wall, kinda wandering diagonally from bottom right to top left.

Some time ago, I purchased a great "Farm Fresh Eggs" sign, in very dark green (much like the color of the wall now) with a hen on a nest and the letters in gold. That's going on the wall somewhere.

What to do, what to do......
