~ Retired and Starting My Future In The Foothills ~

oh no, this is not good news at all. I hope they you get to keep everyone. I cant believe someone would complain even before you had them. Did you let them know that you jsut started moving them and that as of the 13th you didn't have any animals on it?

Wellllll, the complaint against chickens on 7/13 caused a letter to be sent to me, but it was sent to this address, where there is no individual mail delivery. Not my mailing address, which wasn't on file with the county as property owner.

And, on August 3rd, he makes a visit and there ARE chickens on the property.

So the notice to correct will be sent to my mailing address.

Wow... that sucks. There has to be a way around it... its the only reason you bought the place.

Hoping you can get this fixed.

Well if there was no way around it I would sell. No sense living somewhere you can't do what your heart is set on.In the meantime I would be extremely loud to annoy that reporting neighbor.Play music or something.Get lots of manure piles.Shame on the person who reported you.

Have you met the neighbors? I would go around with the letter and ask each if they reported me.See if the person has the *balls* to admit it to your face.

Very sorry to read this update. Add to my buying list *must do* that you should contact local zoning about animal laws just in case you misunderstand the written stuff.

I lay this entirely at the feet of the real estate agent who purportedly researched it for Linda.

After her visit from code enforcement yesterday, we looked online and found the ordinance in less than 2 minutes. If her agent had done that instead of LYING TO HER, Linda would have found another property (one with more land so she would be in compliance), and they would have made more money off the sale. I was with Linda when she made the offer, and she had it written into the offer contract that the offer was 100% contingent on there being no restrictions to her fowl! They supposedly researched it, and they told her that there are no fowl restrictions... if they had done their research, if we all had, we would have known early on that she couldn't have chickens there. There are plenty of other properties in the area Linda could have bought.

I hardly slept a wink all night.... Farmer Lew and I are just devastated for her. I have been sick to my stomach since she found out.

When we do get into a position to buy a house, I will certainly not use that agent (and I really don't care that she's my neighbor and lives less than half a mile from me on the same street... she LIED TO LINDA and put her in this position).

In this market, she will never get out the money she put into this house. It just won't happen.

I think the real estate agents that misled her and lied to her are liable, and I really think Linda needs to get an attorney to help her with this.

I agree Handbasket! I would see about sueing the pants off that lady! This is so horrible. You jump thru all the hoops and do everything they ask and then something slips thru. And the loss of what she has already put in the place,I can just imagine how upset she must be. I too would go to the neighbors and find out which one is disgruntled and let them know what it has cost her. Our prayers go out that she can recover from this.

I am just heart broken for her, and I don't even know her.

You know, it might not have been a neighbor who reported her. How many people are really that knowledgeable about the codes and ordinances? Now, if someone wanted to mess with her... perhaps the old owners who lost the property... hmmmm... makes one think. Interesting that all of a sudden there is a complaint about property use. With everything she has had done to that property and how beautiful she is making it... I think the least of the neighbors worries would be chickens.

And I absolutely agree with getting a lawyer... as it seems that she was flat out lied to. The real estate company should have to make restitution, buy the property back from her at cost and reimburse her for all the money she put into it. (if she can't get the ordinance changed). How bad is the appeal process in that area?
