~ Retired and Starting My Future In The Foothills ~

Oh my gosh Linda!!! I started reading this wonderful story a few weeks ago and only had time to read a couple pages here and there but as soon as I read today of your awful neighbor and the terrible situation that jerk put you in (yea, sorry I didn't know until today) I haven't been able to stop reading til I got to the end! I understand exactly what you went through! I had to get rid of my roos a while back because of a horrible neighbor! Except I did not have a leg to stand on in Reno because the law states that chickens or any small livestock are fine as long as the neighbors have no complaints. All it takes is one lousy neighbor and they can shut your whole operation down.

We've moved since then so all is well with us now. Anyway I followed your beautifully told story for two reasons. One because I still remember meeting you at your work parking lot when you bought the M&M girls from us and two because DH and I have always heard such wonderful things about the area you purchased your house in and have often talked about visiting to see if it is as wonderful as folks say it is. Another BYCer which I haven't seen on here in awhile lives there and my youngest son's SO is from there as well.

I was so excited to see one of our girls in your pictures so knew you still had at least one of the girls and THEN... oh my gosh soooooooo excited to hear that you WON!!!!! CONGRATULATIONS!!! I am grinning ear to ear right now!

I'm so happy you won your fight! I too moved away from town and have a long commute to work so I can have a little hobby farm. I would be heartbroken if I was told I had to give it all up. Congrats! Just sorry you have a grumpy ol neighbor.

Don't really have to downsize, actually - that first post of mine immediately after the hearing (on my iPad in the parking lot) was in reaction to the Hearing Officer's suggestion to "tone down my operation.". Plus the fact that there could still be a nuisance complaint for the rooster noise.

I have divested myself of some roosters and 3 more will be going bye-bye shortly.

Came home from work in the dark last night to discover a dead pullet in my driveway up by the house.... So I have ordered a 4 camera home surveillance system with a DVR recorder. Could have been a dog, but there was only slight "damage" which maybe coulda been caused by flock-mates once she was down. I dunno. But I want to be able to review activity on my property!

And I WILL post "this property under video surveillance" signs, too!

I wouldn't! Let me catch somebody in the act of hurting an animal! I will make it freakin national news. I am talking printing flyers with pics and mailing them to every resident in town to posting it on FB and YouTube!

I have to agree with Linda here. If posting the signs deters someone from even coming on the property, let alone hurting an animal, I would be happy with that. JMO

That's it, exactly.

Oh, dsqard, you KNOW I cannot resist bragging about spectacular events such as hatching TJ eggs or winning against the unfair and obscure citation!!!

Sunny, yes, I still have Minerva, formerly your Minnie. At the rental property, she was one of the boys' favorites, so she tended to hide out in the blackberry brambles during the day. She was allowed to roost on the same bar with Carl at night, but not right next to him (that was Rebecca's right, and occasionally Bernadette's).

Here in my little slice of Heaven, Minerva is much more outgoing and friendly, even though the flock is larger. (The boys have other "options" for their attentions.). She even comes up onto the porch to hang out with several other ladies, even when I am out there with 'em.

And for those who wish to know, I do have a four photo tale of John repairing a bench this past Saturday, with Molly checking out his work. I can't get the photos added to this post until I get him from work, as they're not stored on my iPad. Ain't gonna access BYC from work computer, nosirree!
