~ Retired and Starting My Future In The Foothills ~

31 chicks in the cage brooder now. There are several eggs left in the 3 incubators; two eggs have live chicks pipping or starting to zip.

The chicks in the brooder are very active and are scampering in and out of the cage, as well as under and out from under the EcoGlow. Shortly after taking this photo, I put some of the left-over roll of shelf liner down as a "ramp" so they could get back into the cage and that is working well.

ALL of the cheeping is of happy, busy chicks. Every now and then there is a single loud cheep of outrage, from somebody being stepped on by another brooder-mate.

And you shall have some!

...unless my very screwed up maternal instincts kick in again once they have hatched....

YOUR silkies are so cute! I've never liked silkies from pictures, but once I saw yours puttering around your yard I realized that photographs just don't convey the animation and adorable-ness of the breed. And now I think I can keep 'em in the Chicken Kindergarten or even in that larger-of-the-small coops you and Farmer Lew brought up from the rental property for me.

Yup. Silkies are in my future. Whoda thunk it?

....and then there are those WCB Polish eggs......

Just be careful with your silkies Linda...some bigger breeds love to pick on them...even Polish do.

I am worried about that, yes. They may get their own coop and run... eventually. ALWAYS thinking here.

Plus, there's this contractor who likes projects......

First silkie rooster must be named "Big John" then.
