Reverse Java Pied & Pied Java

If your 4-H'ers get confused because people call a type of green PEAFOWL species "Javas" because there's also a BREED of CHICKEN called "Javas", then the solution isn't for the peafowl people to change the name but for the 4-H leaders to improve the SCIENCE education of the kids involved. After all, the wild SPECIES of peafowl existed before the BREED of Chicken.

And what do you do about Orpingtons and Anconas (these are breeds of ducks as well as chickens)?

Just something to keep in mind before you jump in on a post from 5 months ago.

Don't forget Pekin's LOL

They look a lot like a bronze, and that is really cool that it occurred in two places if it is. Just like the hen in the url that MinxFox posted from that Indian photo site that looked like a cameo. If its happened once, it can happen again

Yeah they look almost identical to your bronze! Hopefully this mutation will become established in Australia, we have so few mutations of Peafowl and Guinea fowl here. I keep getting visions of "reverse pied charcoals" And one of the cock birds is split to white or pied!

Ahmmmmmmmmmmm what he is calling a Java is not the same as here either~
Javas are heritage chickens, and if you have any other issues with such a breed, maybe you should find another name for it so it is not confusing our 4-Hers & other kids raising Java Fowl, here in the states .
Thanks !

The Green Peafowl, Pavo Muticus (from Latin Pavo, peafowl; Muticus, Mute, docked or curtailed) is a large Galliform bird that is found in the tropical forests of Southeast Asia. It is also known as the Java Peafowl, but this term should only be used to describe the nominate subspecies which is native to the island of Java. It is the closest relative of the Indian Peafowl or Blue Peafowl (Pavo cristatus), which is mostly found on the Indian subcontinent.

P. m. Muticus, the "Java Green Peafowl" Found in Java. Was also known from the Malay Peninsula from the northern part extending south to Kedah.

I scare myself sometimes I can copy and paste also, all this info came from http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Green_Peafowl

Its interesting, I had always thought that reverse pied and silver pied were similar until I had seen some pics of reverse pieds. SInce you don't have the white-eyed gene, it is remarkable that Australians have been able to produce a bird that is quite similar, yet quite different. If shipping didn't cost an arm and a leg, it would be interesting to bring in both the reverse pied and the "Australian Charcoal" to compare with North American stock.

I know this may be a long shot, but what about A.I. (artificial insemination)? Does anyone know if the 'goods' can be frozen and transported? At least you would end up with split stock if it worked, and then both ours and your mutations could get established in eachothers sides of the world.
