Is this a boy or girl? Whatever it is it started making really loud noises and is harassing my buff Orpington in the nesting box that is laying. We thought it was a hen but now I am unsure because of all the ruckus.

It’s a girl! Looks like she is going to start to lay eggs soon. As @SchwartzLakeFarmNC said, she is just upset that someone else is in the nesting box she wants to use.

I have one RIR that is extremely chatty, she bawks constantly in the mornings before her egg is laid, after her egg is laid, while others are laying lol. She’s very vocal. Welcome to the club of chatty chicken keepers

She just laid her first tiny egg haha you were right. she was trying out nesting boxes and was irritated she didn’t get the one the other chicken was in haha

Congrats! It's always exciting to get that 1st egg.
Our new girls just turned 20 weeks so I'm not expecting any this year, but would be happily surprised if they do.
