I have a Rhode Island Red that is about 12 weeks and she has not grown much since I bought her at 4 weeks. She has had respiratory issues and she has mostly recovered. I'm just curious as to why she's not grown but my other chickens have.

She is the one on the left. The Barred Rock was just a little bit bigger than her when we got them and now they've by far surpassed her in size. Thank goodness they protect her.

Well, she had fully recovered but she has the sniffles again since yesterday. She looks sickly because she has lost her feathers on her face. She's eating and drinking fine. She gets medicated feed. Not sure what else to do.

It's not just her feathers. Her stance is that of a bird not feeling well. Did she ever show signs of coccidosis? That can cause failure to thrive as well. Medicated feed doesn't treat that. It just "sort of" helps them as they build immunity to the protozoa. Is she getting any vitamins or probiotics? What feed is she getting and what's the protein level of it?

No she has shown no signs of that. Like I said, she had been doing alot better. I was giving her probiotics but no vitamins. To be honest, I don't know brand of feed or how much protein it has. I've done some research and many people have said not to give antibiotics for this kind of thing.

Correct. Giving antibiotics without knowing what you're dealing with isn't usually a good idea. The next time you get feed, make sure you take note of what brand and protein level. Most grower feeds have 20% which is what you want. You might want to pick up some Rooster Booster vitamins & probiotics. You just put 1/3 teaspoon in a gallon of water and mix fresh daily. I wouldn't add it for more than 4 or 5 days though, as it also has electrolytes and you don't need to overdo that. Another option is to pick up some Poly Vi Sol baby vitamins without iron and give her 2 or 3 drops daily for a few days. It's a very well rounded vitamin supplement. My girls get it once a week mixed in their Kaytee baby bird food that I mix with water to pudding consistency. They go nuts for it.

How is her breathing? Is there any drainage from her eyes or nostrils? Do her poops look normal? Can you define the symptoms that make you think she has the sniffles? Poor gal. Hoping she perks up.
