I swear no one here has this cross, but I'm still trying! I ordered 15 Rhode Island Red X Columbian Rock from Frey's, I'm just curious what they look like when their feathers have come in, and as chicks. As well as what you think of them, and well anything I can find out about them. There isn't much on this cross, but it seems fairly popular since they've been offering it for about 20 years (I used to check all the time, and then I found out that they'd been breeding this cross way longer than I was even old enough to know about). They looked beautiful in the catalog, and what I decided on was that the roo's grow up WHITE, according to the hatchery. Plus, they're dual-purpose, very hardy birds... and I live just on the edge of the Canadian sheild...aka cold winters.

Have never bought from freys but do have red/barred rock cross from millers. They are great layers. Definately not a cornish x in the meat department.

Meat is not such an issue, they'd be used for meat at the end of lay, and probably only to feed my dogs

If it can't feed us, it can feed them, cause dog food is even more expensive than human food!

From the photo in the Frey's catalog, they appear to be reddish-brown, like a slight bit smaller version of the Rhode Island Red, we're hoping after a year or so with a flock, we might buy some fertile eggs, or some purebred day olds, for some extra colour.

we just ordered these as well. I looked up the cross on google and i got a picture of a white female with a black neckace and black tipped tail. I hope these are what they look like. Males have same markings but also have a bit of strawberry beige markings in the whites of the shoulders. nice looking bird

I got 2 Columbian Rock x from freys and am not sure they're the same thing you're talking about, but they are mostly white with brilliant red combs and wattles. Some black on the neck and tail feathers with a bit too on the flight feathers. Really pretty and very friendly. frey's also has rhode island reds which I'm going to try this year.

My red x from frees look like Rhode Island reds just lighter there are 2 in the picture, the one in the back I believe could be a rooster, they are 3.5 months old now. Anyoneed know what the roosters colours are?
