Was told this little one is a RIW. True? Looking like a pullet?

do you think it's a true RIW?

It looks like a RIW but true RIWs are Rose Comb. There are Single Combs but SC RIWs aren't recognized by the American Poultry Association. I show my birds at poultry shows. You should be able to click on the pictures to make them larger.

The commercial Rhode Island Whites are single comb. In my opinion they really are not true RIW's. The original breeder of them wanted them to be RC not SC. APA only accepts RC RIW.

I agree with Cmom you probably have a cockerel..

Well I think I am pretty close to finishing up hatching even though I have had a year from .... with my incubators.

Thought I would toss out s few pictures of some of them.

This is one of the cockerel I raise up from Ryon Carley of KS. It is one of my line pullets in the back ground.

Same cockerel with more pullets. This year I am working on tightening up the under fluff feathers and lowering the back line. I hope to have about 100 chicks to work with and cull down to about 15 females maybe 20 if they turn out well.

I am going to run another batch in the incubator. Right now I have each pens eggs in a different rack in the trays. I have 6 breeding coops. This is the wrong picture. The top two trays in this picture was when I was hatching Pheasants so they are Pheasant eggs. The bottom tray was some chicken eggs.

Eggs are in the incubator. Chicks due to hatch on April 23rd. I candled some of the eggs today and there may be some duds but all that I candled were viable. I'll candle again when I set them in the hatchers. As soon as these chicks hatch I will probably have eggs available. I want to see how well it goes for the first hatch for this year. I rearranged the birds and who is in what coop and pen a few weeks ago.
