Rhode Island Whites 12+ Eggs. Florida

Rhode Island Whites can have either Rose Comb or Single Comb. And also those birds are too big and stocky to be leghorns.
But it is hard to tell true Rhode Island Whites with single combs from White rocks.

Ok folks,

Sam is correct, they are too stocky to be leghorns. I use to have leghorns and these bird are way bigger. I've seen White rocks and they have a big ole single comb. These do not look like a White rock. Maybe I don't know what a true rose comb looks like in person, but I was told that these had a rose comb. Now I may have been sold a bill of goods, and I'm sorry if I'm wrong.

These have the same comb as any RIR I have ever seen, that's what I'm basing my opinion on as to calling these RIW's

Thanks for the kind words and I'm thrilled your eggs made it in good shape. I just had 8 of 8 of my first eggs hatch this weekend. So they are fertile.

Anyway, they are beautiful birds, and I wish I could order them! But, I think my incubator will already be full. Maybe next time, i just love them!

Huh. This is an interesting thread. My RIW males have single combs too. They are supposedly purebred. I looked them up at this site, http://www.ithaca.edu/staff/jhenderson/chooks/chooks.html and it says that they can have either a large single comb or a rose comb. What does the poultry association say?

Very interesting links.

I guess my are a straight/rose comb hybred of some sort. Their not like the feathersite pic but they aren't straight like a White Rock either. That other site does say they have both combs.

I too was told they were pure bred Whites and I have not reason to think they are not. So............

They are a well tempered laying machine and are awesome.

In the APA book I am finding. Both the rose and single comb RIW.

Nice Red Comb and Waddles is supposed to mean healthy birds and yours have very nice read combs although not rose comb but single comb. They do not look like leghorns to me and are not big enough for White Rocks which we have and can attest to the size differences. Our White Rocks out weigh our RIRs and should plus the look is stockier and different...I agree with Big Bird I think you can have both single comb and rose comb
