As best as the neighborhood rumor mill knows, a couple of kids got these chicks from tractor supply and hid them from their parents. How they managed that, I have no idea. Once the parents found the birds they were quickly placed outside to fend for themselves. This only was a for a few days until my neighbor saw them in her bushes.
She then saw some big kids throwing rocks and sticks at them. She got them into her garage and then come by my place to see if I'd take them since I already had chickens. Rich immediately said bring them over. She brought them both over wrapped in a towel and have been here ever since.
It is clear they were not fed chick fed. They didn't know what a feeder or chicken fed was. All they would eat was food scraps, bread and grass. I finally have them eating proper fed.
Hopefully you won't have to keep them in jail for too long! I was sure glad I could release Spazzy girl within 24 hours!
In summer the colour is more to the south & obscured by trees. The colours are usually richer in winter too.
