Ribh's D'Coopage

That is not good looking stuff. I suppose that could certainly be a consequence of being squeezed too hard as well. I'm sorry. :hugs :hugs :hugs
Not good looking @ all ~ exactly what the vet said too! :( She's come good before but this is the longest it's gone on for & she is now seriously underweight. Thanks for the hugs. We are doing everything possible for her but there's no way really to asses internal damage, if any.

For @BY Bob: I'm having a little trouble staying abreast of things dealing with Gloriana but I wanted you to know my girls can lose it with the best of them. :D Monday was rather nice & the afternoon was warm so I put Gloriana outside in her cage in the sunshine while everyone was free ranging. All her tribe came to say hello to her & she got really agitated to be out with them. I was a little reluctant as she has been unsteady on her feet & not keeping up but as she isn't infectious I finally decided to let her have some free ranging time too. She was delighted & was soon busy foraging with everyone else. About 3pm we start losing the sun & the yard gets cold so that's when I call the girls for their corn treat & put them in their coop run. Gloriana came running with everyone else. I had to help her as she couldn't manage either of the jumps in but she was jostling for her share with everyone else. Not sure how she managed it as she's so light.

I'm not sure what happened. I've had girls out longer, with less tribe contact & had no reintegration problems whatsoever but suddenly both Soda & Hepzibah [Hens 1 & 2] went for her, husting her away from the fence where she was somewhat protected from all the hustle & bustle & getting her flat on the ground. I don't think she did anything wrong but those 2 girls were in a killing attack frenzy. It was one of the ugliest things I've ever witnessed. I immediately scooped Gloriana up & brought her back inside before any damage was done [I don't think she would have managed to roost anyway] but I have no idea what happened or why.

Yes, I am now worried about what happens when she is well enough to rejoin the girls, but it was only those 2. No~one else was the least bothered by her sudden reappearance.

The older group as a whole are all rather bad tempered just now but they are all moulting & consequentially out of sorts. The man reckons the BRs were jealous. 🙄 I think that is highly unlikely. :D

Maybe...it would be nice to think so. I don't feel very confident though.
I'm impressed with your chicken first aid skills and cool head Ribh. Sterling job. 👍

I suppose all you can do is give her the best opportunity to heal and hope for the best, which is what you are doing. :hugs

It's good that she wanted, and was able to free, range.

Soda and Hepzibah, pull your heads in! :rant

Just as well you were right there Ribh. I hope no lasting damage was done. ❤️

First, to be clear, I do not wish bad behavior on anyone else's tribes.

Second, as to what happened here. The tribe can and will run off sick members to protect the remainder of the tribe. It is quite possible that they being the top hens......
  1. Know she is ill
  2. Are worried that it might be catching
  3. Decided they did not want her eating their good food or roosting with the rest of the tribe for safety sake
I believe that if she does get better she will be welcomed back.

It was probably just fine when she was finding her own food while ranging but once it was the limited supply of food provided by you, that was unacceptable to them. They did not want that limited resource wasted on someone who was ill.
