Vale River

So the vet said the fungal infection may have spread to her inner ear and caused neurological damage, which was affecting her neck and head. He didn’t think it was going to improve so I decided to have her euthanised. I’m sad but she’s been sick for a long time, so I think it was kinder not to prolong her suffering. Here’s some pictures to celebrate her life.

RIP River, you cared very well for her, I'm sorry for your loss of this special hen. :hugs

There was a great banging on the front door this morning. When I hurried to answer it there was a strange man standing there.
Are you the lady who owns all the chickens? he enquired. My heart sank. I figured Aoife's screaming had finally got too much for someone but, no. Turns out he was my back fence neighbour & there were two red brown chickens happily parading down the street & out of the goodness of his heart he had come to let me know I had escapees. The only problem is, I don't own any red brown chickens & when I checked [just in case] everyone was accounted for. I thought of @LozzyR & MJ, who have both experienced chicken paraders.

I don't know where these ones have come from as, though there are quite a few chickeneers round about I can't say I've ever seen red brown chickens on my wanders. What I have seen are BAs & ISAs. Big brown chickens, he said. ISAs aren't big & they aren't really brown either.

Next door owns these...but they're not fliers.
My japs are but they don't ever get enough height to go over the fences. That would be Ha'penny but even she has enough sense to stay out of the yards with unknown dogs loose. I was tempted to go & look but even if I could have rounded them up I have no way to quarantine them @ present.

I sure hope they know their way back home. 🤞

I have survived week one ~ though I'm a bit of a psychotic mess. 🤣 So for those of you who enjoy trivia & words see if you know the correct meanings for these:
Drong
a Mead
Wick
Drong: a pathway between hedges or walls
a Mead: from the OE for meadow
Wick: village or hamlet.
