Ribh's D'Coopage

Deana, the Rhode Island Red, was roosting on the nesting box edge in the small coop too. It can't be comfortable. I guess that Tsuki is just a perch hog

I secured the roost bar, but nobody was interested. I even tried putting a salmon up there but she just squawked, panicked and got down. They possibly don’t have enough wing room to get up there. I think pre-fabs are designed with humans, not chickens, in mind.

Well just colour me surprised!

I think a second roost may be needed. Sometimes you have to work around their personalities.

It was me asking. Poor Lavender 🥺. Her bottom looks so red! I hope that's Cetigren residue and not irritation.

New feathers coming through the skin look like some form of medieval torture...or acupuncture from the inside 😱

Once her new feathers come in she'll be extra beautiful. 🤩

My Lavender Hattie suffers and molts like this. You are right ACM, Hattie is extra beautiful after her new feathers come in. I know Lavender will be as well.

I kept Alice's eggs aside to give back to them for two weeks but the Cetigren has mostly worn off now and, as she is the only one laying, I have decided to risk eating them again

I believe that there is a pesticide in the spray. Without checking closer my guess would be that trace amounts of the pesticide winds up in the eggs. If your are pregnant or breast feeding it might make sense to avoid them for a while.

Just to be clear, I have NOT looked closely at it or its ingredients. I will if you would like me to. The warning is very blunt. There is usually more grey than black and white to these things.

I don't use this product, I use BluKote here in the states.

We were discussing antibiotics more broadly, superbugs, micro dosages, and egg withholding. It was a few months ago now.

Eggs and antibiotics. That I remember. A passion of mine. Good I'm not going senile early! 😋

I actually did the math at some point on apple seeds and arsenic poisoning in chickens at some point on some BYC thread as well. That was equally interesting as well.

They definately were not designed for hens.

Thanks . I have some pictures although they are a bit old. The birds haven't changed much though.
