The time before with a different hen the shell had been formed but had broken inside the hen.
Neither were something that just went away.

Ok I'll keep that in mind. If she doesn't come good shortly I'll try our visiting vet. Don't know if she knows anything about chooks. Relatively new service & I've never needed to use them but they are a rural service so I might be lucky.

They're back!
These three haven't been around much recently. They're with their tribe much more.
They are from left to right, Moon, Tap and Tyle.
It looks like Tyle is a bit light on nighttime sleeping. I had to nudge him to get him to move.
I've been a bit concerned about Tap. She's been considerably smaller than her sister until recently. She is the only one who has battled her way for a roost spot in their coop though, so she's a determined pullet. Judging from the picture she's catching up in weight a bit now.
Moon isn't too good at keeping up with the tribe, or her brother who is starting to take an interest in the adult hens.

On the positive side, everytime I've had a soft shell egg, it has gone away on it's own. It is amazing the variance in experience that can occur. I am sure that @Shadrach experience is as valid as mine.

My suggestion is to watch her and let's see what the next egg looks like. If she is not showing signs of distress I feel good about sitting pat.

She is your hen and you need to decide what to do. You could do an internal but in my experience my hens have been distressed with a shell in them.

As we have all seen with @MaryJanet and Sandy, reproductive issues are very hard to manage but sometimes like Sandy, they can be. Let's hope that is not the issue here.

She is your hen and you need to decide what to do. You could do an internal but in my experience my hens have been distressed with a shell in them.

I'm loath to do an internal. Firstly all the egg seems to be present so I'm confident nothing is left inside her.

Secondly I'll have to spend ages on you tube before I feel remotely confident about attempting that...

Thirdly she is tiny ~ small even for a bantam & I really don't want to traumatise her needlessly.
