We are Southern hemisphere like you guys in Oz. Had a very dry winter and spring (rain) only started in October this year after 2 false starts in July and Sept. We have a cold front moving over, so it's cloudy, windy, cool. Which I appreciate, because it will get very hot come Feb... Summer is long. What season are you in Lids? We're into our 2nd month of spring but you'd never know it by the weather. Normally we'd be sweltering @ least some of the time by now but instead it's been cool enough most evenings for a small fire still.![]()
The ginger smells do good, doesn't it? I have some growing on the corner outside the property. They are invasive aliens here, but they do smell lovely.Hi yall!! I took some pics of some flowers... I don’t have many

Yes, except that a lot of people don't accept any if it now, and say nothing has been done. My dad's German, his dad was a Nazi, and I was born during Apartheid, so I sit with enormous White Guilt, yet I wasn't a supporter if any of it. I voted for democracy in 1989 (my first chance at voting too!) but I never thought the ANC would be so blatantly inept and/or corrupt. They have massacred our economy and more than half of the population is unemployed (me, included), only 25% pays tax while government cronies loot left right and centre. It is all just so terrible and sad and frankly, quite disappointing.Yes! That's why truthful reporting of history is so important. Those truth commissions in South Africa (i think that's where they were held) were for not repeating the past, for recording historical wrongs with accuracy, and for listening to and officially acknowledging victims' stories. Such an awesome social and judicial innonvation that healed wounds and signposted the future.
Yes, I knew you were southern hemisphere, I just wasn't sure which season you were currently in ~ or more to the point, the sort of weather it produces. We are Southern hemisphere like you guys in Oz. And thanks for the welcome! I love reading. Our libraries have opened again on the 5th of Oct after the covid-19 lock down... Really weird, if you ask me. Restaurants have opened months ago, and a library is one of the least populated and touch-feely places on man-made earth! Read the most fantastic book recently by Carl Safina called Beyond Words about our underestimation of animals. It moved me to tears on several occasions. Anyone with chickens know they talk. So do all other animals. Humans are willfully arrogant and don't want to believe it because it does interfere with what we see as our humanity. I highly recommend it.
I know almost nothing of modern African history ~ any of it's history is sketchy @ best~ but I'm not a fan of anyone carrying guilt for the sins of the past for one simple fact: all races, all nations, all peoples, @ some point in their history, have committed atrocities against those who are *other*. The fact is ALL peoples can be the pits. Black Africans traded in white slaves for centuries before America was settled by whites. The middle eastern world is still rife with slavery. The Irish were indentured slaves. The Japanese boiled people in oil or flayed them alive. The Persians & Assyrians, the Mongols, the Goths, the Sythians, Russkis & Saxons all had reputations for ferocity & barbarity that is hard to imagine. It is how we, as individuals, choose to act that determines our guilt ~ or lack thereof.Yes, except that a lot of people don't accept any if it now, and say nothing has been done.
