My Fatties - Not So Much?

It’s fun to observe the girls with fresh eyes. I picked each one of as a weight estimate (except Ester, of course - worst molt I’ve seen in my flock, I think). I think they are less fat, except maybe Ruby, who is on borrowed time. Little Mill also feels like one of the heaviest (after Buttercup, of course). I am hoping my efforts to lean them down have been paying off. I’ll have to remove the large feeders I left out while being out of town. I haven’t weighed them in over a year! I should do that, too.

While I’m at it, here are more sunning images:

Sunbathing and Dustbathing chickens seem the most happy to me. I just love videos like this. 😁

She reminds me all the time of this...
I hear it in my head every time I see her. :lau

There is something about Royalty that us Americans have missed! My name is Alexander but do people notice? (say yes, and your check will be in the mail)! :lau
Well, definitely yes.... it's funny because Alexander really wasn't a very nice man. Most famous people weren't which is quite odd when you think about it...🤔

This is just me, but I would not split the flock. It is their support group. I would merge them all at once. Some of the bigger ones should provide some cover for the bantams. This subflock will hang together if you integrate together and will likely just latch onto the bottom of your current pecking order. I would do 1 integration not 2. If you break them up and the bantams are not at the bottom of the subflock pecking order then there will likely be incidents resulting from them trying to regain those spots in the larger flock. My opinion is that it will be smoother doing it all at once.
I was thinking the same thing but didn't know how to express it. Thanks Bob! :thumbsup

The bantams will also be able to "take cover" under their bigger sisters if they need to.

Look back at the last picture of Tsuki. Beautiful? For sure! Lean and lanky? Not so much!

That's what I thought. 🤣 She's more Deana's shape.

Just because 1 hen bullies her way to a pleasing plumpness doesn't mean she did not start out lean and lanky. 😆
"Pleasing Plumpness" I love it! 😁
