Ribh's D'Coopage

Maybe it's just nice & warm in their favorite spot! 💗

I don't plan on culling my girls out either. I love your insight into your flock...you know them all so well. I kind of wish I had started with a smaller flock so I could know them all better!
It's just time, which is always in short supply round here. :) When our weather's good I try to spend a lot of time with the flock but we have had a very damp summer & our weather is already starting to turn.

Speaking of culling... I am so angry right now. I mentioned over on Bob’s thread that another Farmer here believes he has Mareks and was going to cull his entire flock of over 100 birds. Including not even 1 year old birds. Also because he has some egg eaters, and ones that refuse to roost in his nasty, uncleared coop, it’s so much easier and cheaper to just cull them all and start again. He’s also dumping the heads and bodies randomly all over the island. Some heads were found on the government dock. 12 bodies and heads were dumped near the drinking water reservoir (on the way to near our property). Just not ok, at all!

I will cull for kindness in the case of terminal and painful illnesses; or for our eating, or gender reasons (again also for eating). But really, how disgusting to dump the bodies on public property.
I'm with the *surely that's illegal crowd.* Really, I have no words for such callousness. 🥺

Good evening everyone 😊

But, mom there is so much to look at.......you just can't see what we see
Obviously not! 😆 The man spotted them yesterday & was intrigued. They were all together perched like so many bottles in a row. :lau

Eve's Adventures

Eve has left us tho return home to her Dad. We had a wonderful visit. The Wombat books were a big hit as always. I read and read them. Thanks so much @LozzyR

Since it's Caturday let's see how the cats did with her.

Davis tends to hide when any strangers come to the house, especially small children. Isabel is pretty good with people overall. I figured we would not see Davis at all. I was very wrong.

He was extremely tolerant of Eve and for her part, Eve was very good with both of them. No grabbing, no fur pulling. In fact she was so good it would give me confidence to try something else before she left. Here is Eve with the kitties.

Her and Isabel spent time crawling around together.

Davis was so comfortable with her he would even lay belly up!

Here she is telling Davis Hi!

And feeding Davis cat snacks.

For all my Aussie friends, this is her new favorite TV show!

Wow! She has really grown up! She's come such a long way. I bet you loved getting all that extra time with her! ;):hugs

Chicken Tax

Eve was so good with the cats, we decided she could be trusted with a "bok bok". She had me carrying her around the house so she could see all the "bok bok" pictures. So Phyllis volunteered to come in and meet her.

How about some free range time together?

She has such a gentle way for such a young child. It was tough circumstances for them but we got a great visit out of it.
That's wonderful! Another chickeneer in the making. ;)

This is exciting! Friends for Regan! :clap :clap
Yes, I wouldn't normally do another buy so close to the last one but the man is really taken with his Vorwerks & they have been a good fit. Japs & Belgians are just delightful & don't take up much space.

This is true chicken wisdom. However I would posit that those that cull hens which no longer lay really don't care much about how the new ones integrate. Just lay your eggs with a minimum of fuss.
I'm sure your right...😢 All I've got to do is remember what the flock was like when Lavender died & Soda went broody @ the same time. Total chaos! Poor Luna was so stressed because the lead defaulted to her. Hepzibah won't & Ha'penny is too erratic. Patricia is not a leader. Long may Soda live!

I would do the same. That last lot is really special.
Yes. If I'd had trouble I'd be holding off but they are a really tight little unit unto themselves & are gradually getting used to being part of the Big Girl Tribe.

Speaking of which, I had Olivia on & off my shoulder last night. She comes up for a snuggle then goes to roost.
