Ribh's D'Coopage

The other would likely be proper rotation of the eggs. Momma hen will rotate and adjust the eggs about every 15 minutes. There is a pattern to what they do. If you disturb them then the eggs wind up out of pattern. For sure once they have the eggs that to want them to hatch you should consider walling them off from the others somehow. At least poor Ceres.
Yes, so Shad said too. I just haven't figured out how to do that while still allowing for them to come & go for food & water. It's not easy to divide my set up up into different parts ~ especially when the girls have taken the middle nesting boxes. I really wish they would have settled into the small coop.

Good girl. Found what she is supposed to do. 👍 It is nice when they do it themselves. I'm looking at you Phyllis!
12 months has made a huge difference to Wrold's attitude. I'm really impressed with Ceres as she's so much younger but they both seem to be managing really well.

Is that a music score in amongst the papers? 🤣 They are lovely cats but I've never managed to get any of mine to walk on a lead. They get most affronted, lie down & refuse to budge. 🙄
Isabel would walk backwards if you put a harness on her. She was trying to get out of it. Then she would lay down. You could take her for a drag if you wanted. 😆

You know the troubles Phyllis caused me by taking nest box #1. They don't make this easy.

Is egg laying all day long or just in the morning?

I had to go back and look! I can see how you think it is but it’s not. I think it’s just columns of something.

It tends to go all day long. Most of mine seem to be laying after lunch just now but Luna is usually an early layer. She's often in a nesting box when I open up. The Campines are really erratic. Most of the bantams seem to lay later in the day. The good news is most of my girls are laying in the small coop rather than vying for space in the big one. I've thought about shutting off the Big Coop once I open up & everybody's out but then my broodies lose the option to socialise when they come off the nest. My gut says to trust the girls know what they're doing despite all the difficulties I can see & my attempt @ intervention was a complete disaster. I want them to have the best possible chance to raise these chicks & they've determined the Big Coop is a better option than the Little Coop. I have no idea why. It does keep everybody right in the heart of the tribes & even in the egg the chicks will get a feel for how the tribes function.:idunno

With both of my broodies being at the bottom of the order, being with the others was a bad thing. I had to supervise both of them when they were off of the nest otherwise they would get abused constantly, would not be able to eat or bathe.

I hand fed Sydney the entire time.

That is not happening with Wrold & Ceres. They came off the nest @ different times yesterday. Ceres just went about her business @ warp speed unmolested by anyone & only the mad mess with Wrold. She took her time but was very bokky. Both girls opted to spend some time out in the run with the majority of the tribes rather than just in the coop run so I am reluctant to cut that off. Both these girls are more middle order. Ceres is lower than Wrold, mostly because she is younger but they have quite similar temperaments.

If the top of the order is not harassing them then they should be ok. You must mark all of your real eggs. You are going to have to remove the freshly laid ones every day.
