Geez, even a small house cat when very riled up is quite scary!

Well yeah! They have teeth and lots of sharp claws! They are also very limber. I suspect more people have been shredded by mad cats than by dogs.

Shredding is exactly what Nightshade had in mind and now here he is resting his chin on my hand and purring as if butter wouldn't melt in his mouth. Only half an hour ago he was ready to kill everyone.

So sorry to hear about Freya - I know the Vorwerks were a bit of a challenge but they were very pretty.
I must say the new place looks like a great chicken garden so I hope you get time to enjoy it without the dogs being bothersome. Like you, I have never kept dogs - they always seem so needy compared to cats (says the lady who just came back from the vet with two cats and a wallet now as light as air!).
Both cats were extraordinarily badly behaved at the vet and I thought there would be serious human casualties. Geez, even a small house cat when very riled up is quite scary!
Hope your two settle in and get to enjoy it too.

Imagine when this one gets angry.....

She went after Enzo in the window today and I had to grab her up as he was trapped. I really can't hold her if she doesn't want to be held.

She wanted him out of the window and he was too frightened to move.

WEDNESDAY WHEREVER:
We are down to 9.
Freya, my last Vorwerk, succumbed to the wobblies. Everyone else seems fine but for the first time I have more bantams than standards. Ha'penny is now my lead hen with Beatha as 2nd, though Portia would like to be 2nd & is not beyond throwing her weight around. They spend most of their time now hanging under the fruit trees.

The 1st night Ha'penny made an 8' jump to roost on the passionfruit trellis. Being bright orange she was easy to spot & hoy down but I hadn't realised Wrold had followed her & that hen is a camouflage master. Hunkered down amongst the leaves in the twilight she was impossible to spot. If she was a little more silent I'd never find her!


The chickens have adjusted well. They are super happy with their new surroundings. I can't say the same for the cats. It will take them a while. As for the dogs...I know why I've never owned one! I can't move without them both shadowing my every step.

Sorry to hijack Ribh’s thread for a bit; I will pay some tax.

I’m not normally one to promote causes or ask for money, but I feel strongly about this one. NSW Hen Rescue is a legitimate Australian charity and they rescue (mostly) ex-batt hens in terrible condition and save them. They rack up big vet bills looking after them, plus all the food bills and Catherine is worried they may not be able to continue. She put a call out asking for donations and if you are in Australia, you can ask for a tax receipt and claim it on your tax. I’m not sure if you can do that outside Australia.

If you are in a position to give them something, it would be wonderful if you could, but no pressure. If you have PayPal, you can donate through PayPal’s giving fund, otherwise through the fundraiser site in the screenshot below. I donate to on them on a monthly basis and have also just slung them a bit more cash just now. I no longer donate to big charities; only little ones as they need it more.

Isn't that a rabbit hole of a mission? I would guess there are hundreds of thousands of battery hens "available" all the time since they wear them out in a year or two and replace them with pullets.
