Such a silly goose! LolHa'penny is pre-broody.
I know we're in trouble when she turns her nose up @ the nesting boxes & runs round squwarking as if she's lost her head. It means she's looking for a hidden spot to lay her clutch before sitting.
She's a good hider.

I sat on the back steps & waited for her.
She's normally a businesslike layer & doesn't fuss about. She came straight to me when she was done & waited for me to open the gate so she could rejoin the tribe ~ even though we both know she can perfectly well hop the fence.
And here's the result of her endeavours:
one large, perfectly white egg.

She's definitely my problem child. I let her sit last season & not only did she kill her own chicks, she killed everyone else's as well. I am currently looking for a broody hut. Probably cheaper to get one built up here but actually getting the work done ~ well, I could be waiting years.Such a silly goose! Lol![]()
Oh no, that's so sad. Wish we were closer and could help you with that. She's definitely my problem child. She's a very strange hen. I'd been looking for her for perhaps 1/2 an hour with no luck ~ we have foxes so I like to know where her hiding spots are. Eventually I gave the call that means: Come home. I have food. Surprising she answered or I might never have spotted her. She's definitely my problem child. It just means saving for a bit & having to wait when I already have broody bantams even though we're in the middle of our winter ~ & it's definitely cold!Oh no, that's so sad. Wish we were closer and could help you with that.
Don't those girls realize it's time to take a break! So crazy to realize, you're in the middle of winter and we're in the middle of summer and it's a tad warm...It just means saving for a bit & having to wait when I already have broody bantams even though we're in the middle of our winter ~ & it's definitely cold!![]()
