My gosh you guys, I came home today and he was dead! He didn't look injured and everyone else seems fine. He was inside the coop and partially buried with shavings. No predator can get in my coop or run.

I am wondering if he swallowed rocks and it killed him. He sure didn't look or act sick yesterday. BUT this morning, before the sun came up when I opened their door, he wasn't on the roost, he was standing on the floor of the coop. I really didn't think anything of it.

I don't know what happened to him.

I don't know, sometimes they choke or have little chicken heart attacks or something. He sure was handsome. I know it's one thing if they have symptoms maybe you can do something about it but when it's sudden like that, what can you do? I guess you could have him necropsied or you could do it. Had you ever treated them for worms?

Sorry for your loss. I lost my first Polish cockerel the same way. He was fine one day. The next morning I came out to let everyone out he was on the roost. 2 hours later when I checked for eggs he was curled up in a nest box gone. No idea what happened.

I feel for you!

I followed your original thread, and thought the little girl/roo was dapper and sweet. I know well the shock and grief finding your roo suddenly dead. Last year my two-year old Wyandotte Stan fell off his perch and died from, I'm guessing, a heart attack. Some chickens have heart defects, and you'll find them dead for no apparent reason. You have my condolences. Be reassured it was nothing you did.
