Today marks the passing of my first chicken. Her name was Toaster....named for her brave personality...She was always the first to hop up on my hand, first to head outside their run, first to try new foods, etc. She almost died when she reached the POL, but rallied and has done well since January.

It appears that she was egg bound.

I keep crushed oyster shell down for them at all times, I feed Nutrena Layer formula, plenty of fresh water, clean digs, 2.5 acres to free range every day (lots of gross bugs, snakes, and such to eat), and the occasional stolen bits of cat food. I just don't know what more I can do for them.

Here are a couple of pictures of her -

This picture I titled, "The End" has taken on a new, sad irony...

I'm so sorry for your loss.. RIP sweet Toaster.
Not to hijack the thread or anything but.... How long can they go without laying before they get egg bound?
