I lost Ruby one of my Olive Eggers over night. I think she was egg bound ~ I just noticed yesterday afternoon that she was standing in a corner with her back hunched and looking uncomfortable. She seemed fine earlier. I brought her into the house and throughout the day and evening gave her 3 warm soaking baths and massages. She seemed to really enjoy them and the blow dry. I could see the egg several times but it just wouldn't come out. She slept in a cage in the laundry room over night and DH talked with her at about 5:30 am, but by 6:00 am she was gone.

She went so fast.
She was hatched on 4/28/10 and was only laying for about a month.

so sorry to hear Ruby passed.

She looks a very bright entertaining bird.

It's so exciting when they start laying. I have 2 that are starting right now, and 10 more who will be starting soon.

Does anyone know of a way to help prevent egg-bound chickens?
