Don't beat yourself up-just the velocity at which those birds hit something when they go after it causes enough internal injuries to be fatal whether you get there in time or not. She had a good life with you and likely a very quick death.

I'm sure you did everything you could. If she wasn't eaten the hawk might still be hungry and come back, keep an eye out. I really hope you don't lose anymore chooks

I put them all in their runs and as I have a 4 day weekend I will be keeping a close eye on all my girls. Thanks

I keep mine closed up in their pen and irregularly let them out to free range a few days a week. You did the best you could sometimes hawks will finish one bird and go kill another so you saved whichever one it would have gone after next.
