Also, at what age do they start crowing. Mine are 3.5 months old and I need to get rid of a male before crowing starts as my neighbors are currently VERY understanding and I don't want to upset that, since chicken raising is a questionable practice around here...

I see no roosters in either of the pics. I bet the one with the big comb will be your first layer.

yeah i think its a hen. And mine started to crow when it was almost exactly 2 months old so i think you wouldve had some crowing by now.

I'm going to be a contrarian, I guess. I think that is a cockerel. It it is 3 1/2 months, it doesn't look like a pullet. The comb is much larger and his posture is more masculine.

I have RIR that are just a week or so younger than yours (hatched in April) and my male RIR looks a lot more like yours than myfemales do. Also, my guy has not started to crow yet, but we are thinking he will start pretty soon.

According to what I can see in the pics I am gonna say pullet but I am no expert

I still think it is a pullet. I see no saddle feathers, and no longer tail feathers.
