RIR being aggressive

This is the main reason I have stayed away from RIR. If people have aggression problems, they seem to start with the RIR. I know this is an oversimplification but I won't have them in my flock.

I have 6 RIR's and 2 BO's. The RIR's have not been aggressive towards me but they are not friendly either - they are flighty, flappy birds that don't like me messing with them! That being said, as each one has passed through a broody phase (yes, 4 of the 6 went broody, and 3 were allowed to hatch chicks!) they have mellowed a LOT - to the point where I can now pat them as they walk by. There has been a huge difference in behaviour between POL to the 1 year old stage.

But I digress....your bird is causing you issues. I like the idea of providing chicken entertainment, wether that be with food or with some branches and logs to play on. You could even add additional roosts to the coop so they can jump and climb during the day. I do wonder if the extended hours confined to the coop has created some degree of boredom for them? It could be that running after you and having a peck is the highlight of her day! I agree with the advice that more birds to 'spread the love around' is a great idea, and certainly putting the bird 'back in her place' is a good suggestion too. Many people simply pick the bird up and carry them around for a while!

Good luck with your girl - I hope she mellows out for you in time. If not, perhaps rehoming her is an option.
